Sounds to me like you might be loosing the pilot bearing/bushing...

My guess would be that your front bearing is bad. You can get a complete rebuild kit here for less than $400.00.

Mine rattled at part or light throttle when the countershaft bearing was shelling out. I think the input shaft bearing would rattle similarly.

Mine rattles like a SOB when I'm in 4th and below 1000 rpm. I figure it's a bad bearing but I'm not sure. I've read a TSB that the clutch disk causes this and the cure is a new disk. Either way, it's still running and doesn't make any other noises so I'm just waiting till it goes out or gets a lot worse then it's overhaul time. I got 160,000 miles on mine BTW.

All manuals will rattle in a low RPM condition, but the Getrag rattles louder than the NV4500 in this condition. I wouldn't advise lugging your engine because it will beat the living snot out of the trans and the rest of the running gear.

Mine is opposite. Quiet as a mouse when cold. Pretty noisy in neutral with clutch out, when hot at idle. Less noisy as the RPM is raised. This, in neutral. Really not sure how much or if the noise is there when moving.
I've done the re/over fill. Otherwise it operates perfect. I just listen for any changes in the noise. When/if I hear a change, i'll be on here whining about it.

I'm thinking that part of it might be the pilot bearing cus after i have been driving a couple hours and pull of the freeway, and whating for a trafic light to go green some times, when i go to put i back into gear it don't want to go in!

People get real impation when it takes a couple sec. to get it into gear!
Thank for all you input!!!!!!

Mine does a weird thumping sound when it's idling in neutral. Sounds like the muffler is hitting the bottom of the cab. It also does it at speed sometimes. Could this be all in the tranny? I've looked the tailpipe over and I don't even HAVE a muffler. Everything is tight and not hitting anything. The thump sounds to low in tone for it to be coming from the tranny but then I haven't heard every possible sound a tranny could make.

I had a Dodge Dart 3-speed on the column that would rattle in neutral with the clutch out but was silent with the clutch in. Turned out to be the input bearing was bad. That was a good car with a slant 6 and got great mileage.

Mine was doing just like your about pulling up to a red light and hard to get back into gear thought it was the clutch master put it on then put on the slave cylinder still didn't fix it turned out to be the pilot bearing seized up. I know what you mean about people getting impatient finally figured out to go to fifth then back to second and it will go right into gear.

Mine makes a lot of noise cold in neutral and not quite as much warm, I put all new bearings in the trans and its the same, noticed the coupler between the trans and transfer case was a little loose but put it back in. I'm kinda thinking thats what is causing my rattling noise in neutral.

When i found out that i have a coupler between the tranny and t-case(having replace menny chebb ones) I ordered one and put it in. the old one was just fine but replaced any way. I did this a year ago! When it had 190,000 on it.

So this noise is maybe normal//???????? or maybe ignorable?
