Stick with the stick ... that was an accident I swear 8). I guess it all depends on the application though, as everyone else has said. For serious draggin I might have to go with an auto, but if your gonna be pullin at all go with the MANual...
Wheels

Re:Stick or auto?
I do have a 82 corvette, its got an auto with the switch that changes the shifting points. Im trying to become a lil more knowlageable about trannies. All that stuff earlier in the post about torque max and everything lost me. Can i set it up that way? or just hope for it. No its not just a dragging truck. It might happen 20 times a year, which isnt a strip race. More street. I love my trucks. But here in good ole Mason City Iowa there is the best mix of sport(fast and furious) cars and trucks. My goal. Best of both worlds. Have the truck that scares the outa ya when it pulls up beside ya. The solid state to run take a bump without 1200 bucks damage ( Aunt Parked behind me easter and the parking break went out and bumped her car doing 1300 damage. I had to put some more black paint on my bumper...... But then to go out and beat some well stock mustang gts firebirds and what not. If there modified i might have a go for my money but what the hell. Its the thought that counts

Re:Stick or auto?
Sticks are a lot more fun to drive. They annoy me sometimes. I have a old Chevette too, that has a 4 cyl diesel engine( great mileage there were talkin 50s haha) with a 5 spd. And a new Tiburon with another 5. Shifts quite diffrent ( ive been a neverending dodge auto man...... guess i have more money than brains) But i like the 2nd and 3rd gear ease lauches. If my bro tried that then hed kill the car. The 6spd i test drove just slowly crawled away haha. Like the chevette.
The Corvette is a auto. but its got a shifter kit in it. But yeah its gonna do some of everything. I just got my wholesale and dealers license. So its gonna do some heavy towning. Horses as well. I just dont do the comp towing. Nor do i do Comp racing. Just the and giggle stuff uptown. My stock cummings beats the 3.9 mustangs so i shouldnt have far to go

Re:Stick or auto?
what has been neglected to be mentioned is that the sticks CAN cost as much as a modified auto. the 5 speeds have problems that need to be addressed for any reliability. and the syncros always seem to be going in the these transmissions (more or less the 6 speed). the 5 speed has longer shift gaps than the 6 speed, but is actually before for drag racing (and visa versa for pulling a trailer).

sure, the aftermarket clutch may hold, but can the stock internals hold?

something to think about
Tom
