Auto Dip stick on 47RE

Does anyone have a solution to a dip stick that wont stay in its tube?Every time you push it in where it is supposed to be secure it jumps right back out about one inch or more so dust and or water could get in the transmission?? ???

Re:Auto Dip stick on 47RE

You can do what alot of us have done and cut about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the end, this helps as it is too long usually and bottoms out.

Re:Auto Dip stick on 47RE

This may sound ****, but when cutting the dipstick you should round the edges too. This will make the dipstick go in easier and won't scrape material of the tube and put it in the pan.

AlpineRAM

BB: ;D

My tranny is doing really fine- the only "problem" I had was that I had to adjust the front band again, because I had not tightened the locknut correctly.

The TC is great ( makes me wonder why DC didn't put it in in the first place) shifts are nice and firm but not too harsh (very important on snow/ice over here) when driving carefully. Good to hear man. What kept you from going with the 91% or the 93% setup? To stiff for you?

Re:Auto Dip stick on 47RE

BB: Bill K suggested this setup. He had some concerns about high altitude and a stiffer TC. Especially for offroading. With that TC I can let the truck take off good without smoke from the tailpipe. ( I can do it with some smoke too. But there are some ghastly fines on that here).

What I do really love about this setup is winter driveability. I was afraid that it would be worse than stock. ( You know firm shifts on ice.... )
Actually it handles winter and offoad better than stock. At light throttle it shifts really smooth and predictable.

AlpineRAM

Re:Auto Dip stick on 47RE

While I agree with shortening the dipstick, if in fact it is too long, (and rounding and deburring ), You could consider using a light spring to secure it.
We use this method on the off-road racer, and it is very effective.
