dip stick?

dumb question, but I figger I'll ask it anyway.

I broke the handle off of my dipstick and called de3alership about a replacement. They said I can't just get the stick, have to replace to tube as well because they "changed the design".

Anybody know if this is the case and if so can I use the new stick w/ old tube? Looks like it'd be a pain to replace the tube.

thanks

the tube is cake to replace....but the updated is a different length, so if you use the new stick with the old tube it will read not read true

I just got a new dipstick 2 months ago, no new tube to go with it. It was the same stick I broke.

Went and got the stick today, they both have the o-ring in the handle.

The old one is a 2 piece stick with rivets holdin it together and 2 twisted sections.

The new one is one piece and straight.

As far as I can tell they are the same length (little difficult w/o the handle)
any last thoughts before my brother gets back with the truck to test it out??

If the oil level is correct in the pan, install the new stick, and mark the proper fill level on the new dipstick with an engraving pen.

Instead of a marking pen, take a very small drill bit and drill hole in center of top of full mark. I did it cause I can't see to well without reading glasses, and can check from either side. Works good for us old codgers. Nelson
