Question about Amp with Stock Infinity Sound System

Can the amp in the stock system be used with aftermarket speakers? I wired my new rears in direct using the pos and neg wires in the harness, and they are considerably quieter than the fronts, which are still factory.

Any help?

Thanks,
Chris

is everything about the rears the same as the factory ones?? size....2 way vs. 3 way and definatly impedance!!! the impedance will make all the difference if is not what the infinity amp is looking for!!

I don't think so. From what I understand, the amps on the Infinity system are supposed to be built into the speakers. Edited: This is probably not actually correct; but there is an amp that runs them that you have to hook up somehow.

Typically, OEM loudspeakers have a 2 ohm impedance instead of the standard 6-8 ohm. By running at a low impedance they get the most bang for the buck from the peashooter amps they use. Designing OEM audio systems is my profession, but I have to say that I've never reverse engineered (taken apart ) any Chrysler product as our systems aren't used in them. Typically though, a small amp is riveted to the basket of the loudspeaker and is powered by a 12 volt supply line. There can be a main amp as well as the little satellite amps. Chris, when you installed the new speakers, their higher impedance makes the amp work harder to acheive the same sound pressure level as what's being produced by the fronts. Also, with simple systems like the Infinity, many times their amps take a speaker level input from the radio instead of a line level signal. That's why your aftermarkets work with the OEM radio. You're not doing any harm by running the 8 ohm speakers. They're just less effecient.

All the Infinity stuff has the amps mounted to the speakers so you will be quite a bit quieter now because you are a lower impedence and unamplified.

OH Ok,

Next, I have a Brand New FREE Pioneer 300Wx4 amp. I think it put's out something like 35W RMS, Would that do okay on speakers rated at 65W RMS? Or would it sound quiet like they do now. Should I sell it and buy something better?

35 watts RMS x 4 is plenty. You'll only run into problems with bass notes... door speakers aren't too great with those, anyway.

I personally run bigger amps always have but I would try it and see how it works out for you. Here is what I would do in your situation.

Leave the rears in. Remove the front 6x9's and replace them with a nice component set if you have infinity then you should have pillar tweeters so get a set to replace them and then make a plate to fill the 6x9 hole in the door and fit a 6.5" driver in there. Now you will have balance. Then use that amp you have and power them up and see how they sound Im pretty sure you will be happy.

Do you still have the stock deck?

No, Deck is a Sony CDX-M8805X. 3 4V Preamp outputs.

Know what size the factory tweeters are, so I can find the right ones, or can I make anything work?

How are these for Components, I know they don't match the rest of my setup, but they WILL match my Subs when I get them

Thanks For All The Help Guys, I Really Appreciate it!

Those JL XR's work good I used to run all JL stuff and was sponsored by them but recently got picked up by focal so they give me everythign now. I highly recommend Focal but only if you have a disposible income a high end set of compoents is in the 2000.00 candian range. Im also working a deal with Audison for amps that would be one heck of a combination. Still with Alpine for head units though ;P
