Noisy FP gauge

How can I get my mechanical FP gauge to be quieter? I have the needle valve turn almost all the way in but its still driving me nuts!!! Any ideas? I have 24 psi @ idle and about 19 or so when crusin.

Rattling gauge means it's dying. Mine has been on it's last legs for almost 2 yrs.
My needle valve is so closed off.. I only show 5 psi when first turning the key on. Takes 5 sec to come up to full pressure after starting. But it stopped the rattle and still works ok.

Turn it down till the rattle stops. If guage no longer works... it's time for a new one!

Noisy FP gauge

I had to do like RJohnson said to quiet it down but you all so can take the fuel line loose at the needle valve and shake the fuel out of fuel line and reinstall
and will quiet it down for 7-8days untill all of the air escapes again.

In my opinion, fuel pressure pulsations, and not the general lack of pressure, is the biggest killer of VP44s. It beats the inner high pressure chamber seals and diaphrams to death, causing them to leak or fail, which gives the 0216 code. Get rid of the pulsations and you solve your guage problem and make the VP44 live longer.

If you ran the needle valve too far open for a length of time the gauge may be shot. Mechanical gauges don't like pulsations.
I've found less than a quarter turn open is more than adequate.

Guage rattle doesn't mean it's dieing.

If it's connected direct to the VP, it will rattle more than connected to the bottom of the filter canister.

Disconnect the fuel line from the connection point and let it drain out for an hour. Hook it back up and your good to go. You shouldn't need the needle valve cracked so little to have a slow responding guage, why have a guage in the first place if it's that slow to react.

My truck does the rattle thing every 6 months or so and the Isspro FP guage is 4 years old. Don't know why it does it but most of the guys I know have a similar situation.

Do a search, this topic has been beat to death on many many occasions.

Talking

maybe if your gauge isnt shot try using an isolaotor instead of the needle valve, they have a diaphram that will take the pulsations,i have an isspro fuel gauge and an isolator and its been working great for well over a year.also maybe 24psi is to high, ive read the vp doesnt like anything over 18-20psi.do some vp presure searching, maybe im wrong but im sure i read it here.

One answer is to call Isspro and order one of their inline snubbers. I went through 2 mech gauges in 2 years because they both started rattling. After adding their snubber inline with a new gauge, there is no more rattle, and the gauge is quieter than before without the snubber inline. I was also using an isolator, but the gauges apparently cant handle the pulsing without some kind of dampener. The only downside that Im not too crazy about is the gauge doesnt respond quite as fast to changes in pressure with the snubber, but it is still accurate. Seems to be a good fix.
