boost question

So I traded for a different boost gauge. My old one only went to 20psi and I could peg it out. The one I got goes up to 35psi, but I can't get past 24 . Stock HX35 12cm 02 5spd edge ez, boost elbow replaced, and jammer 5's. I do need a clutch, but I could'nt feel it slipping when I was making my test run this afternoon. I bought the ez used of the classifieds and did'nt really notice a difference in the way the truck ran till I put in the injectors. So I guess my question is how much boost should I be getting.

start checking for boost leaks

you need fuel to feed to make boost. get a fuel pressure gauge. check for boost leaks from the entire air path. if you have the stock intercooler boots the bottoms tend to expand and rub and cut into the fender lips. pair of channel locks will bend them out of the way. check the tightnes of the clamps on the boots. but I would think with a big enough boost leak you should be hearing it. your injectors by them selves wont raise your boost alot. the fooling and timing of the box will do the most. so the question is airleak or not enough fuel. are you still making smoke at say 2400rpms if you shift?

most of my smoke comes on down low and then clears up. I can't lay a cloud up to 2400 or really even a puff. It'll smoke up to about say 19-2000 rpm. I have been trying to take it easy on my clutch getting a new one next week. I really try to keep the skinny pedal assaults to a minimum as i still have'nt put the holley blue on and don't have a pressure gauge. which are the next must dos.

X2, check for boost leaks and fuel press could def be a part.

Did you replace it with an adjustable boost elbow? Or just a reg one?

This is the one I had on my Hybrid and the one I put on my Super B also.
Works great. About a half turn per 4 lbs on my hybrid.

no exhaust yet ? even if you could make 40 psi, IT HAS TO GO SOMEWHERE.

get the bigger exhaust in there ! Oh and those elbows, you can make one pretty easy for less than 5 dollars. Let us know how it does when you change the exhaust.

ok so here's what I got now. Made sure the boot are in good shape, checked the clamps, and still nothing. So I pulled the hose from the elbow to the waste gate actuator, put on a short hose from the elbow, stuffed in a bolt and hose clamped it. did the same thing on the hose going to the waste gate actuator and viola 33 lbs of boost so far. Have'nt pulled a trailer or put a big load on the engine. Kept and eye on the pyro 1075 degrees at 33 lbs wot. So when I tow if it gets a little toasty I'll put it back like it was no big deal.

My 02 ETC had rv 275's, edge ez, boost elbow, 4inch dp that fed to 5inch, bahf, and a Fass setup. I could hit 42 psi under heavy load. But my fuel pressure never dropped below 15 psi at w.o.t. and egt's would hang around 1200. I didn't do it many times cause I figured the stock hx 35 was gonna sling apart.
