When all else fails, take it to the top...

Story: I have a set of 18x9 chrome wheels from Eagle, they are series 178. I did not buy these wheels, they came on the truck. They look brnad new though, so they can't be that old, or were taken real good care of.

This past weekend, I was changing the rear brakes. Well, I have noticed a scratch the last couple times I washed the truck on one of the wheels, and it being a truck, I was like oh well. When I took this wheel off to change the brakes, the scratch was actually a break. The spoke on the wheel was cracked all the way through. Scared the bejesus out of me, so I go to get the spare out from under my truck. I bought this truck about 3 months ago, and did not check to see if it had a spare, guess what, no spare.

SO i change brakes and say a prayer, and put wheel back on.

So I call Eagle, get a bunch of different numbers to call, and finally get the Eagle Distribution Warehouse that is close to me (Birmingham). Guy is a total tail hole, told me he would not warranty an item that I could not prove I bought. He went as far to say that he did not know if I stole them or bought them off a punk. I started to question his ethnic standard, but decided it would ot be the best thing. I am PO'd now, and I tell him that the Eagle website says that all eagle wheels have a lifetime structural warranty, and he gets irate. So I ask for the corporate number, he thrashes it out at me and hangs up before I could write it down (good memory). I call the corporate number. Guy there was toatlly helpful, and talked to the person that needed to be talked to at the corporate level. I get a call back from the guy, and he tells me to hang up and the guy from the local distribution warehouse will call me back. I hang up, and guy calls and says he will have a wheel sent to my local eagle dealer today. I could tell he was not happy at all.

Why do people have to be ***** when it comes to their jobs? You can get anything done in this world with a good attitude, you don't have to be a PIA.

The guy did'nt have to be a Edit, but I might have found your problem. Eagle's website says those wheels are only load rated at 2100lbs. Way too little for these heavy trucks.

2100 X 4 wheels should = 8400 pounds.
I'm thinking that should be OK for a lightly loaded/empty 2500 truck.

Or is my cipherin' messed up again?

Yeah, my truck has not been loaded down by me, but the previous owner had a 5th wheel in the bed. So, I am guessing that may have caused it. The most I will put in the bed will prolly be my 4 wheeler, or a load of firewood. All heavy stuff is on a trailer.

You might be surprised. My truck's front axle GAW is 4450 lbs actual weight - and it's a 2WD! That's 2225 lbs per wheel.

My 2500 with 3 people in it bed empty and 1/2 tank of fuel is 7600lbs. So, going over 8100lbs would be extremly easy. If your looking for new wheels Eagle 114's 18x9.5 are rated at 3400lbs each.

I don't care for the look of the 114. I guess i need to look for something better in the weight category. But most of the work done with my truck is pulling weight, not carrying it. Cotton wagons, peanut wagons, that sort of thing, when the harvest season gets here, anyway.

Total may be under the weight rating but on the front tires alone its over the weight..

Either way it can be blamed on the eagle rep that sold the lightweight rims to the other owner.
