Planning for winter in Texas

All those living in Texas. I'm looking to buy wood pellets for my pellet stove. I'm currently in N.Y. so I'm just a little lost as to where I can buy pellets. Suggestions?

Thanks

Where abouts in Texas? I think I've seen them at Tractor Supply. But that's in North Texas, and I don't know how far south they sell them. It's nearly 600 miles and 9+ hours from here to Brownsville, so the weather is a lot different down there.

Must be a regional thing. I haven't see it at my local TSC. But wasn't looking for it either.

Going to Dallas. Last time I was there, January February and March. It was DEFINITELY cold enough to burn wood. I know it gets real hot there but the winters are still pretty cold too. All you native Dallas folks can not tell me you wear shorts in those months mentioned.

How come the apartments in Dallas offer gas burning stove fireplaces?

1. The four seasons in the south are "Almost Summer", "Summer", "Huntin' Season", and "Christmas"
2. A gas fire place is good for one thing. A romantic place to have a glass of wine with your girl.

It barely gets cold enough in OK to wear a coat.

OK, Ok, I used to live in Dallas, and agree, a source of wood heat is awful nice to have during the winter. (especially during some of the Dallas ice storms!) Up there, there was a more definite feel of 4 seasons. I sure do miss that...
We used to burn not quite a cord of oak a year but it was nice when it got cold enough to light it off.
Summers get hotter in Dallas than down here, but thankfully, they don't last near as long.

I live down here where we "welcome" even a single night of freezing temps to help cut down on the bugs in the spring. (And to finally get the grass to quit growing) I call it 10 months of A/C season and 2 months of great weather. Yet, December 2004 we actually had a REAL "White Christmas"!!!
First time my Teenager had ever seen the stuff.

As for pellets, at least you are moving into THE most likely major metro area that would have some somewhere(other than Amarillo!).
Bring the stove, I'm sure you'll be able to find a source...

Uh, leave the X-country snow skis though...

I suggest picking some up on your way down...most likey you won't find it when you need it.

As SoTex said, Corpus Christi is summer weather most of the year with about 2 months of chilly weather. I grew up there...and I actually miss the short winters and long, hot, soaking humid, mosquito-infested rest of the year.

I used the fireplace last winter here in Lockhart to heat the house while I spent most of the evenings in the shop, it really kept the electric bill down.

Anyway, good luck.
