Planning the move
Planning the move
I know I've mentioned it several times in the towing part asking all kinds of trailer questions, and it's all coming together now. In the early part of May (looks that way right now), I'm going to be driving from Jacksonville, FL to Monterey, CA and then up to around Seattle. I thought it would be cool to visit a few fellow DTRers on the way if at all possible since I don't know anybody by anything except their "callsign" on here. The plan for now is to take I-10 until I hit water then turn right. Have a great Monday!

-SFB

One of your most memorable overnights will be on Hwy 1. Just make sure you have reservations way ahead of time. The campsites are sections of the road that are left after the rest of the road falls into the Pacific. It really makes you feel comfortable while sleeping knowing the site you are on could be the next thing into the Pacific, which is typically about 75 to 100' straight down. ??? ??? If you can hit a good site, the otters will be playing in the surf below you, gorgeous sunset, sound of the waves, rumbling of an earthquake - - ooooppppssss, forget I said that. Enjoy.

Shakin'Bob

What's the next east-west road north of I-10 in NM? I think I'll get 10 days or so to make a 5 day drive, plus I'll be taking a little leave on the way.

-SFB

I was actually going to take I-5 north. I grew up in Monterey, and was there for Christmas this year. Went to Phils for dinner and everything. My favorite chowder is still the Old Fisherman's Grotto on the wharf though. For the long legs, it'll be I-5 all the way. I even got myself a "mountain guide west" for all the hills and stuff. I might could use some advice on where to fuel up though. It's a good thing I know CA well or I might have to take advice from a Furd guy!

I suggest you dodge
40 through Arkansas, stay with 10 until Houston then take 45 North to Dallas to pick up on 40 West.

Hate to throw water on your campfire....but 'taint no 40 west going out of Dallas. You can either take I-20 out through Abilene or take 287 up through Witchita Falls and head out west through Amarillo...
If you want I-40 you'll either have to go on up I-35 to Oklahoma City or follow along 287 until it hits I-40 near Amarillo....

Good to see you know your way around out this way, cause if I was on a FORD site, there is NO WAY I WOULD TAKE ADVISE FROM A CUMMINS GUY
;D ;D
as far as fuel, just plan your trips around
THE FLYING J stops, they tend to have the best prices and good fuel, as you have been out this way, I don't need to add anymore than to tell you to bring a REALLY GOOD CREDIT CARD, have a great trip and enjoy yourself.
