my friend had a tree fall on his 99 2500 last fall, his ins.co. gave him $9000 and he got the truck as salvage. he also is still driving it with a salvage title . it has a dent in the roof fender and bed ,other then that its still a good truck .your truck is fixable . body shops now days are just a rip off!

It's why I cringe with terror when I see the big trucks doing their thing when I'm delivering hotshot.

My '03 is MINE! I know all it's foibles and quirks. Gonna be ****** if anything happens to my truck!

Winding down....

MY insurance company tells me today that they come up with around $11,000 as a vehicle value, that HIS Insurance company said was worth $7,500......

THAT sounds more like it.
"Salvage" value is approx $3,000.
Estimated repairs are ~ $8,500.

So are they going to go after them for the other 3500 or do they just pay you?

They cut me a check for 11 Grand then present the bill for the 11 grand + the towing bill + the rental car I had last week to his insurance company.
And I send them the title to The Beast.
They can take their "$7500 value" and take a looooong walk on a short pier. ... then raise my negligent neighbor's rates.

I TOLD then not to screw with me......... but do they listen?......Nooooooo.

$11k is pretty fair, but that really sucks nontheless. About a grand over bluebook, not counting the goerend and the topper.
Problem is, well you bought a new truck already, finding something comparable.
I'd still push for more. Take that $11k number then add the recepit for $3k for your trans, cost of the canopy, any other extras you may have on it that aren't just stock parts.
11k wont make you whole on the truck.
My parents got screwed once by the car ins co. Our garage burnt down, got mom's new car (1st and only new car ever bought by my parents), dads truck and sis'car. Luckily I was away at school or my freshly restored Impala would have been toast too. Anyway, ins co waaaay devalued my dads truck and they couldn't even see the mileage on it (burned to the ground). Only got enough to buy one that was 2 years older, high miles and starting to rust out. To top it off they cancelled my parents afters for "high risk" due to a comprehensive claim.
INSURANCE COMPANIES ALL ARE THEIVES!
I got rear ended once in my new(er) truck and was actully told by the other person's adjuster that they didn't think my truck sustained any damage and that the rear bumper was bent prior to the accident! This truck was pristine and the bumper had not even been hit. She KO'd the trailer hitch as the front of her car stuck under my truck like a lawn dart! Hitch was bent, frame tweaked, bumper was arc shaped from the impact.
They wanted to pay me nothing. I got my own estimate of $2500 + the damage to my tailgate due to having to use it with a bent bumper. Had to threaten legal action to get paid. WOn't even start about the time I was found to be 3% at fault for a bad traffic accident that sent 2 people to the hospital, 1 was airlifted and about $30k in vehicle damage. Other at fault party got 2 tickets and the ins co negotiated with each other and the result was a "partial fault" accident = raised rates.

Heck, at 177,000 miles ... it's JUST broken in, and with a Goerend tranny
I'd like to find one with double those miles for 8 grand. That's a 15K+ truck around here.

Not too sure what THAT means.
I'll be stopping by the body shop tomorrow to see.
It means they think it's too high and want them to write a cheaper estimate. A good body shop will find something else to fix while they are re-writing.
