Cummins is runnin like a beast now!
Ran the new truck up to 800 miles. hooked up a 18 foot overloaded lumber trailer(14K+ truck and trailer). thing sagged my 3500 backend to about a foot off the ground!
Put about 200 HARD miles on her, going up the biggest hills i could find and coming down them letting the cummins do ALL the braking(holding 3000+rpms for 5-10 min periods in low gears)
Then changed the oil and filter.
It was alot of fun!
Anyhow I was crusing along today and Ive noticed the truck seems noticably louder, meaner, and the rpms and turbo seems to spool up and down alot smoother during acceleration and deceleration. Im gonna keep periodically hooking up to those big trailers and pounding out hills while the grunt of the motor gets stronger and stronger
anyhow, just wanted to telle veryone how muc h fun Im having with my new Dodge

I hear that is the best way to break them in right. Hook on to something heavy and get those temps up to help seat the piston rings and clean out the injectors and exhaust. My truck seems to run better after a hard pull too.
Glad you are enjoying your new truck!

I've always believed thats exactly what these trucks need, every so often hook up to the biggest meanest trailer and find a nice hill and have at it. Best "additive" out there. Now I just need to find a good 12k lb load to hook up to.....

I am glad to hear that you had the old girl workin, but keep in mind, that you can get the EGT to high even on a stock truck.
Hills for 5 to 10 mins at over 3000 rpm;s sounds kinda high, but I don't know what your temps were either. Even on a stock Cummins that pulls a lot, and EGT gauge is a good idea.

I have noticed after we get back from a trip pulling the 5th wheel my mileage will go up to right at 20 mpg on the highway. It will then slowly go back down to about 18 mpg and stay there. That tells me it is doing some good to work the old girl from time to time. Got another trip coming up next week.

When I pull my 2000 lb Coleman popup camper up my lane way...it sure cleans out the injectors!
All kidding aside, even towing a ton or so and getting into it once and a while helps a bit.
I have yet to pull anything serious, but I am sure it would be an eye opener to what these thing can really do.

Cali. to Ky. sounds like a better move could not be made.Goodbye nanny state. Hello straight pipe, red fuel, no trailer tags and only loosely enforced speed limits.
