I definitely think you got the wrong end of the stick, man. That sucks for sure. Is there any way you can keep "her" and fix her yourself.....it's bound to be less than $8700 to repair it in your driveway!!!
Hope things work out for you.....new truck pmts REALLY SUCK!!!!

Cab tweeked right at the firewall.
I always liked that truck of yours Ed. Very unfortunate incident for sure.
Late fall about 30 yrs ago...
I had an experience similar to my Elder Twin. I was pulling a motor boat behind my old 1974 Dodge truck at the lake. I noticed how well the truck was running and pulling the boat effortlessly and looked back and the boat was GONE!

I back tracked and could not find it! I got some friends together and we looked everywhere.
Found it the following Spring, in the middle of a living room of a cottage when the owner called to report it.

Even the RCMP couldn't find it that fall.

I can hear it now, "But it was just a little bump. How could it screw up your big truck so bad."

Sorry about the news. Can't sand it how others screw up and ruin the things you work hard for. And you can't beat them to at least let off steam.

Ed, been a long time since I had to deal with an Insurance company, but the last time I did, I was able to force them to replace my vehicle with a equal if I did not believe their settlement offer was fair.
Might be something to check into, knowing Insurance companies, they got legislation changing it by now, but you purchase Insurance to make you whole.........

^^^ I'd look into that. Making you pay out of pocket to buy a truck they wrecked is bologna. They're depriving you use. You're losing a vehicle you trust, a vehicle you know, a vehicle that was maintained.
How do they intend to make that right? They better make it right.

Not sure how it works stateside but up here, sometimes, they'll pay out the loss number and let you take the truck because they don't see enough salvage value. You can convey that to them with your disappointment in their offer too. I would pursue that if the payout is going to do more then be a down payment on a new ride and can be used to rebuild your truck and get it re-certified for the road. Your resources and expertise in rebuilding and sourcing parts are one of your strong points from what I know of you.
. Just another suggestion for you Ed.

You do not "have to" except what the insurance company "offers" for your truck, been there. You don't even "have to" deal with their insurance company. File a law suite against the cars owner.
Still waiting for a call from his insurance.
The 'other guy' is my neighbor.
Believe me, I'm not going to take the first settlement offer they give me.....unless it's REALLY good.
I'm planning on removing MY stuff from the reminants.
(Grover air horns air tank, and compressor, Scotty II air cleaner, CB mount and antenna, etc)
Wifey already saw a 2012 Deep Red 2500 Crew Cab 2500 LongHorn last weekend that SHE liked.
HIS insurance Co is paying for the rental vehicle I'll need to go on vacation for a week.

. Just another suggestion for you Ed.I had a restored 1967 Nova which was rear ended and totalled. I managed to keep the wreck and sell it and it was the only way I ever came close to breaking even with all that I had put into it.

ALREADY had THAT chat with the body shop guys........
One guy said he'd help me take off NON STOCK parts that won't "devalue" the vehicle.

I still have the stock horns and the stock airbox.
I'll leave them the aftermarket cracks in the dash.

Body shop stated that USAA wants them to 'rewrite' the estimate.
Not too sure what THAT means.
I'll be stopping by the body shop tomorrow to see.
