My Mom has a '92 Olds Royale with the 3.8 V6. It will run for awhile and then die.....like it ran out of gas.
Does anyone happen to know where the fuel pump and fuel filter are? I've done a search, but nothing for sure. I just hope it's not the one in the fuel tank.

No codes. Just dies and all of the dash lights come on. Turn the key off and wait a few minute and it will run again for a block or mile.
Thanks for the info. I'll crawl under there tomorrow and check the filter first. Can an external pump be put on there things? Something like aHolly?

No, you cannot put an external pump on it. As long as the sending unit assembly is good you can install a new AC Delco pump for about 80 bucks. I would most deffinetely change out the fuel filter first. Make sure you use LOTS of penetrating oil on the fuel filter lines. if you have to change the pump I would recomend replacing it with an AC Delco pump only, all the other ones wind up failing a few months later.
Here is what you will need to get to change the pump,
Fuel pump
pick up strainer, also called a pick up sock.
Isolator
fuel filter
If you have an Autozone near you, they sell AC Delco fuel pumps.
Good luck

Crobtex, make sure you have a fuel issue before you change pumps. Might also be an ign. module or screwy coil pack, though Ign module would be more likely. Usually when the FP dies it is not coming back on after cool dawn.
GMs are noted for the ign. module under coil pack getting flaky.

This also sounds like some of the symptoms of a falty ignition switch...but I'd start with the fuel filter & pump first.

I would start with bumping the engine over from cold, and listening for the hum of the fuel pump, that would tell you that it is trying to work.
Then, if you hear the pump, change the fuel filter and see what happens. If this does not clear it up, locate the coil pack/ign module. Run the car, when it dies, open the hood and cool the ign module down with perhaps some cool water or compressed air, then try starting immediately. If it starts, your problem is most likely in the module, as I believe these cars had 3 coil packs bolted on top of the module.
Good luck with it.
