Stupid wheel bearings

The front pass. side wheel bearings just died, and with them went the nut and all the threads on my outer axle shaft. So is it posible to rethread the axle and put a diferent nut on it,or do I just have to buy all new parts? If it is possible does anybody know where I could get it done at?

You'll need a new axle shaft, you should be able to get one at a junkyard. Or you could check ebay, they are on there from time to time, also.

My guess is they were probably dry. When was the last time you repacked them?

You'll need new parts. Along with the visual damage is the heat damage, which changed the temper of the metal, which could mean the end of the axle could break off.

I repacked them about 6 months ago,but that doesn't matter now they are done,I have to replace them. I was hopeing I could have a machine shop rethread the axle.Your right it probably is better to just get a new shaft, thanks for the help

To get the shaft redone, they will have to turn it, then thread it, which would make it smaller too, so now you'd have to run two diffrent bearings, and two diffrent nuts, so your better off replacing.

How did you repack the bearings on a 4wd?
They are sealed bearings. If you popped them apart to grease it's no wonder they failed.

Thats what I was thinking. Unless you converted it it should have unit bearings.
