losing power in overdrive

I own a 95 3/4 dodge ram diesel. I have had my truck in a couple shops and they can't find what is wrong, I have also had the transmission checked, and it was good. The problem only happens when it gets cold outside, never in the summer, only in the winter. After it slips into overdrive it will occasionally acts like it is bogging down.. the RPM's will drop then suddenly go back to normal. I can drive the truck to town and nothing happen then on the way home it will act up 10 times. It is not a every trip occasion. We have changed the fuel filter also. HELP please..

Just throwing ideas at you..........Have you checked the fuel heater? Is it cold enough for the fuel to gell?

No I have not checked the fuel heater, it will start acting up when the temp drops to 30 or below outside. I have also added diesel additive when filling the tank, this does not help either.

Has the overflow valve been replaced or the fuel pressure checked?

Bill, I don't know much about the VE pumps. Could you explain or even put a picture where the overflow is on them? I tried looking for one and can't seem to find one.

Cold weather bogging sounds like the screen in the fuel heater is corroded and covered with goo. A lot of folks do not know that there is a pre-filter screwed to the bottom of the fuel heater, and it nearly closes from rust over time. Then along comes winter, and water and parafin will bond to the screen and nearly close it.

A replacement screen and o-ring kit will run you around $10-12 at a Cummins Service Center.
