Leaking Fuel

Today when I walked out to my truck for lunch, I noticed that I am leaking fuel from the front side of the tank (looks like from the top). I just filled the tank up last night. Is this normal to leak fuel like this? The puddle is about an 6 inch circle below the tank.

If you do not have exessive miles, should be a warranty fix.

Several things you can look at;
  • Aux fitting leaking (top of Fuel tank module)
  • Fuel tank module loose (check ring for tightness)
  • Tank vent hose leaking where it attaches to the tank
  • Cracked tank???
Good luck

This is a tank vent that prevents leakage in case of a rollover. Many put a hose on the one you see and the one further back and put the other end of the hose up higher than the tank. Some also put a small filter on the line(s) to prevent dirt from entering the tank. One year model the vents were in a depression in the tank and it allowed water to enter the tank.

I had an aux. tank in my bed that gravity fed the factory tank and if it got too full during the heat of the day the expansion would make it pour out of the vent on top of tank. Simple fix...got several feet of fuel line with a T-fitting, tied the vents together and ran the "new" vent tube up and over the rear x-member and viola, problem solved.

I was told once on another forum, "if it isnt leaking a little fuel or oil then it isnt a diesel" how ignorant or true is that?

I didnt believe it ofcourse, nowdays theres something just not right about these things leaking gold.

txarrowhunter.....that statement would've been true 20 yrs ago....the old 2-cycle Detroits leaked oil like a runny nose....if they weren't leaking you better start looking for problems!!! Nowadays these trucks cost so much they should be free of virtually any problems, much less leaks. Mine is closing in on 300k and if the ol' girl sits on concrete for 2-3 hours I can see about 4 drops of oil. Doesn't really amount to a hill of beans but it's still a leak.

alright...that was my .02 for the day...i'll quit babbling for now...almost quittin time .
