code 1763 comes up!

Hello to all. Need some educated "help" on my 2002 24 valve potential motor problem. I have been pulling my piano trailer around now for the last 2,000 miles since my 5th lift pump was installed. Everything has been going smooth until yesterday.

I stopped at a red light and then when it turned green, I stepped on the accelerator pedal to go and the truck had almost no power at all....in fact, it actually felt like the parking brake was on! I glanced at the fuel pressure gauge, and it was the normal 15 psi....so that ruled out the lift pump being bad again. 10 miles down the road at the next red light it did it again!

Can anyone shed some light on the potential problem? The code 1763 came up after I recycled the key 3 times. I looked up the code and it said "Governor pressure sensor voltage too high." Could this be my problem? Please explain.

Thank you!
Myles

It sounds like your injection pump has experienced a failure in the computer on top of the VP44 pump. When you get drivability problems, and a fuel related code at the same time, it is usually time for a replacement pump.

The governor pressure is in the automatic tranny- with that code it will be in limp mode and start out in 2nd or 3rd- so no power.
Looks like you should swap your governor pressure sensor and governor pressure solenoid.

AlpineRam.....Could you please explain what you mean by "Looks like you should swap your governor pressure sensor and governor pressure solenoid. " I don't quite understand what that means.

You are correct AlpineRam, there is something going on with my trans. I have noticed that it is shifting much differently than before. And believe it or not, it does appear on occasion that it's starting out in 2nd or 3rd. Thanks for your input; just explain how I can correct this problem.

Thank you! Myles

The governor press. sensor and the governor pressure solenoid are transmission parts that you can obtain through your DC dealer. The code you mentioned says that the governor pressure in the transmission was too high, so the transmission went into limp mode.
I don't know whether these parts would be still under warranty on your truck? If yes let the dealer fix it for free
If you want to tackle this yourself I'd strongly suggest to get the shop manual for your year from DC as a first step. Then source these parts, maybe somebody can chime in with part numbers.
For good measure you should get a tranny oil filter and some quarts of ATF+3 too, drop the pan, remove the parts and put the new ones in- the factory manual has step by step instructions for that.
But to avoid throwing good parts away I'd say go over the electrical connectors on the transmission and the PCM (on the firewall, behind air filter) with some contact cleaner and dielectric grease. Also take a look at the wiring harness from the transmission for breaks, rubbing etc.

HTH

The gov psi transducer and solenoid is a pretty common prob. If you can change a trans filter, you can perform this job. I would also use the recommended +4 fluid from the dealer.

Thanks JBODY!
Do you have the part No. s at hand?
I think it would be nice to have them on the site somewhere. Gov press. sensor and solenoid, AT oil pan gasket and filter.

Yup, you were correct! It was a faulty transducer and solenoid in the trans. The mechanic diagnosed the problem and corrected it. Now I'm back in the drivers seat.

Thank you for your input.

Glad to hear it's solved

Good to have techs like JBODY who'll chime in with good info. I didn't think about the 02 needing ATF+4.
