changed fuel filter and won't start
Re:changed fuel filter and won't start
I finally got the truck started by putting a bleeder pump on an outgoing line of the injector pump and just sucking the fuel through the lines. I'm sure it's not how it was supposed to be done, but as I said before I'm a pretty fair tinkerer, but I suck as a mechanic. The injection pump wear and tear was my biggest fear, but we were waiting on a back-ordered part and this was my only transport.

Hi guys. I know this is to late to help you, but other people might make use of this info. I read on another site that the lift pump on 98.5-2001 trucks is a carter pump that can be found at napa or other suppliers a lot cheaper. This post also stated that these pumps are for small distance lifts and are being used on cummmins outside these lift distances and that you will have to keep replacing them.
Has anybody thought of mounting an inline holley pump back at the tank andusing good braided line and aeroquip fittings to beef up the fuel delivery. They use this system on drag cars, so volume and pushing power should be quite high. I know Holley is mostly a "GAS" parts supplier, butthey should have stuff available for diesel. If not, maybe some demand will change that

Dave
