Changed fuel filter, primed, ran, died and won't start

Changed fuel filter, primed, ran, died and won't start

Drained housing, changed fuel filter, bumped starter 3 times to prime, started truck ran rough then died. Asume I didn't get a good prime, guess I'll have to bleed line/s? Can anyone give me some insight to what I need to do? It's a2002. Thanks Matt

If it started, ran rough and died, you had air in your filter housing that you pulled into the injector pump. You can prime the filter housing again and use the schrader at the inlet to the injector pump to purge the air from the system. If you have fuel all the way to the inlet, then you'll just need to crank a little bit to purge the air from the remaining lines.

You can also loosen some the nuts on the injector lines and crank till you get fuel from these locations. I've never had to do this, I've always been able to get running using the first procedure.

I have a button I use that plugs into the starter relay spot in the pdc. I bump the starter and push in on the schrader valve at the vp while the lift pump is running until you get good fuel flow. Once you do, loosen #1 and #3 injector lines. Crank until you get fuel flow, and tighten them up while your cranking. This will usually get it to "cough" over enough to run and then I'll push the pedal down to bring up the rpm's and purge the rest of the injectors.

Thanks guys, I'm having arough one today, couldn't even find my post and reposted. What is the shrader valve, is it under the little tire valve stem cap on the vp, where the line comes from the filter? This is gonna all be good stuff to know, but right now it's got me a little wound. Thanks Matt

Yeah, that's your schrader valve. Just depress the pin in the center to open the valve. When you're getting fuel from this valve when the LP is running, then you know you're getting fuel to that point.

THANK YOU!! Depressed valve while lift pump was cycling, got good flow. Cranked it 3 times and it lit off! Great info to know for roadside or offroad filter change situation. Always carrying a spare now. Great forum, great help, THANKS ALOT!
