Re:A/C leak?
I'm having the same problem with my 94. I have put the dye into the system and have not seen any indication of a leak anywhere. The only possible componet that could be leaking is the evaporator core. > This is quite a job to change at least by the stories that I have heard. I figure I will wait until it gets so hot that I can't stand it anymore. Then I will tackle the job and sweat and cuss even more.

Re:A/C leak?
I recharged mine last week and it was down within a few days so the compressor would not stay on. I recharged it again last night. This morning I nearly choked on the freon when I opened the door to get into the truck. It seems that mine is leaking in or near the evaporator. I looked for leaks around all the hoses, manifold, and pump clutch but could not find anything. I will take the dash apart this weekend and take a look.

Re:A/C leak?
Years ago when I sold auto parts we had Freon with red dye in it. You might want to check around to see if someone still sells it. Also, you may want to see if you can rent a freon gas sniffer from a rental place.

Re:A/C leak?
I just finished installing a new evaporator coil. The original was leaking due to corrosion caused by dirt build up. I was surprised how dirty the coil was. Unfortunatly there is no way to clean it without completely removing the heater box by removing the complete dash. Not an easy job as it took me a day in a half and still need to find someone to evacuate and charge the system.

You'll want to replace the filter-dryer also, since the dessicant bag in it is now no good since you have had the system open.

Chris

Re:A/C leak?
I would have replaced the filter/dryer but none of the auto parts stores carry it. Kept getting the "is a dealer item" line. I dont think it needed to be replaced since I immediately taped up the ports when I removed it to keep moisture out. The desecent bag can hold a lot of moisture. I agree, it would have been better to replace it, but since the dealer would not of had one for me in time for my 4th of July vacation, I took the risk of reusing it. It is all charged back up and working great.

Re:A/C leak?
Ray,

I made it a MUCH bigger job than it needed to be. I disassembled the entire dash, component by component. I did not realize that the dash can be pulled back as a complete assembly without removing everything. ie: air bag, radio, instruments, and thousand screws. I can go into more detail if you wish. Best to refer to tech manual. Only special tools will be the AC line disconnect tools, but they are cheap. I would definatly recommend for someone to do it themselves if they can turn a wrench. Not a hard job at all. I wish I had a digital camera when I did mine so I could have documented it and writen instructions.

Kevin
