Re:brakes are not working properly

My truck does something similar to this. When it has been raining and my truck has sat for a while when I first hit the brakes it will throw me through the windshield. It locks the back tires right up. The only thing that I can think of is that the rear drums get some surface rust on them and then once that wears off they work just fine. Don't know if this is your problem but it happens to me.

Pa outlaw:
My guess is that you are having trouble with the vacuum...oh, is yours hydraulic??? system.

If it is vacuum, check the pump, the hose connections, and the check valve.

I am not sure about the hydraulic systems, but I would check the equivalent systems.
george

Re:brakes are not working properly

My brakes are very touchy also but never a hard pedal. They just sometimes grab very quickly with slight pedal pressure. I guess it's better than not grabbing enough....I just don't let anybody else drive the monster..

Re:brakes are not working properly
Pa outlaw,
Sounds like you may have a booster problem. You can chec the booster by, engine not running, pump your brake pedal till it is hard. Hold your foot on the brake pedal hard, and start the engine. If the booster is working, you will feel the brake pedal pull toward the applied position. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find. I don't know if you have a vacuum boost or not, but if you do check the hose going to the booster. I saw a car that had the same problems and the hose was separated inside. It was not visible from the outside. It did have one spot that didn't "feel right" when squeezed though.
Tom

Mine does the same thing. When I feel it happen, I just let up for a second and then hit them again and it works. BTW, my parters 99 does the same thing. He changed about everything thinking he had a problem. Still does it.
