Trucks tow mirro(s) questions
Hey Gang,
I have the power/heated tow mirrors on my Dodge Ram 2500 and some jerk cracked my passengers mirrors when I was at work. Can just the mirror be replaced? Or do you have to replace the housing and mirrrors?
If you can just replace the mirrors, where do you get them?
Do I have to go to the dealers?
Can I change them myself if the dealer sells the part(s)
Thanks in advance

You should be able to just replace the mirror glass. I don't know about being able to buy the glass anywhere other than the dealer, but even if you could I would imagine that the dealer stock glass would fit better than some where else so if you could find someone that sells the stock glass though. I would think that you could change it your self I changed one on my '00 chevy work truck. Just try not to brake anything else during the install.
Good Luck

The mirrors are flat right? When i had a broken mirror on my sunfire , i took it to an unholstry/glass shop , he cut out a new piece of mirror glass , and wet sanded the edges to make it fit perfect , took 10 minutes and cost me 5 bucks.

I had the same exact thing happen while at work.
I just replaced the passenger side glass. Ordered it from the dealer. It came with a poor set of instructions but it wasn't hard to do. Someone who has done it at least one time could do it again in a couple minutes.
I like these mirrors, but DC needs to redesign the housing so the bottom outside edge of the glass is not exposed when adjusted correctly. I am sure I will be replacing at least one more glass in my lifetime.

I had those stupid flip out mirrors on my 2003 truck. I had the dealer take them off and put on the older 3 point style dually 6x9 mirrors. You'd be surprised what you'd missed with that hunk o'plastic in the way.

I recently replaced one....
1) Release 3 clips you can see by moving the mirror to extreme position (l, r, up, dn).
2) Pull firmly on the mirror...it will release
3) Remove the heater wires...note location.
4) Study the backside of the mirror glass carefully. You need to reuse the plastic circular part. Once you figure out the direction to unsnap it, proceed slowly. Pry on the half moons; do not pry on smaller plastic tabs...they break VERY easily.
5) Install the circular part on the backside of new mirror glass.
6) Snap (firmly) the new mirror onto the motor assy.
7) Enjoy seeing smoke in your mirror!

Funny I'm the opposite. I thought the stock mirrors are the stupid ones and the towing mirrors are the better ones. I would have them on a truck even if I didn't tow.

I agree - my '98 has the stock mirrors, and my '05 has the towing mirrors - which I like far more for the increased vision they give me towing or not.

Can't remember how many times, I almost hit someone, because of that big black blob mirror to the left of the wheel. Even when it was in the upright position, I still couldn't see without craning my neck. Now I can see down to the ground because the mirror is lower and out of the way. It collapses just as the originals did. And, the front post doesn't help at all. Whoever came up with that slanted front post design should be whipped. Now, I'm looking for a pre-1994 model, with good tow mirrors.
