Sick and tired of these tree huggers!
You raise a good point .boB but I don't think your really understanding what I was trying to say. So let me help you out. I'm not saying that every time a hippie sees a diesel engined truck race light to light makes them aware of the environmental issues so many of them believe. I'm simply saying that having a big loud diesel truck on every street corner and at every stop light blowing smoke and calling a lot of negative and unwanted attention to us(the diesel community) makes us look bad and certainly doesn't convey any type of good message. Now if were at a truck pull or a drag race, dyno event then by all means have at it. That's why I said there's a time and a place. Not trying to step on people toes. It just my .02
Very few people think a smoking vehicle, diesel or gasser is "cool".
Most people probably think the owner is too broke or oblivious to fix their vehicle.
Sort of the opposite effect that people who think smoking is cool are after I would think.
Whenever they see a diesel truck - even when the engine is not running - they say, "See!". Look at what the OP wrote.

Drive any way you want to, it won't change anything one way or another.
Do you really think so? Do you really think that womans opinions and self rightousness were formed because she saw one too many diesel engined trucks "racing"?
Again, do you really think so?
These liberal hippy tree hugging self rightous ignoramuses have no clue about their environment. They just listen to the sound bites on NPR or ABC news and then get indignant. Heck, these people still believe in global warming!
You can't fight stupid.

But hey, drive how you want, add the nails to your own coffin. Just don't be surprised when more stringent regulations come down the pipeline on modifications and emissions. But it must be NBC's fault.
I think tate understands what I'm trying to say. And I couldn't have said it better my self really. Nobody would give diesels a second look unless they just got "smoked out" at a light or a stop sighn. The guys running around town blowing smoke every where is what people notice. And in this day in age, that's not really a positive thing. And besides who wants to waste fuel. At over $3 a gallon over here on the east coast..I know I don't. Hell, half the kids I know that own diesels wouldn't own them if it wasn't for the opportunity and possibility to blow smoke. And that's not speculation, its reality. And its gonna get us in trouble one day. In years to come there's gonna be so many emissions equipment and retarded power levels due to Big Brother trying to put a stop to global warning and all the so called environmental issues. Yall better start studying up on the fuel types and cetane levels. B/c 5-10 years from now...that's gonna be our performance discussion. Because there's gonna be so many limitations to power adders, all were gonna be able to do is put fuel in them. And since I'm on this rant..I think ill keep goin. Continuing with the "smoke show" debate. I spend a lot of time on here. Not so much posting but reading. I wear out the search function. Its amazing what can you learn if you look for it. And while I'm doing all this reading I know so many threads where guys are looking for fuel economy. How many mpg's can I get out of this 8,000lbs truck. However the very next day, sometimes within a few hours the same poster is asking how he can blow smoke or asking about a smoke switch or adding his .02 to a different thread where he's states how he loves to smoke out a intersection or blow smoke all over a hippie in a prius. Now how is that achieving the best fuel economy. Is the need/want to blow smoke that bad? Just the other day I was behind a guy in a dodge(as much as I hate to say it) and we were coming up on what seemed to be a homeless guy walking down the side of the street. He was minding his own business. Not bothering the guy at all. He stops right night to the guy. Pauses. And blows smoke all over the guy. I was appalled. Not only is that just down right cruel. It makes us look bad. No, wait. Scratch that. It makes us look down right horrible.. And the sad part is..that wasn't the first time I've ever seen that done or heard about somebody doing it. That's really sad if you get your jolly's by smoking out somebody that's down on there luck. And with that being said, we should all consider ourselves very lucky to own and be able to drive a CTD. After all...you could be the guy getting smoked out by the side of the road. Wheeew. I'm gonna pop this can of grizzly open and jump of this soap box before I get myself upset. Yall have a nice day.

Because once you wind them up.......
I do wish we could make the power without the smoke. All the smoke does is draw attention to the fact that we're waisting fuel. I don't need the black smoke to make me happy, a light brown haze will do just fine.

I agree. I wish the power was there without all the smoke. I know it can be done to just a good haze, but I feel it all comes down to the fine tuning that we can't do just yet. We would have to be able to control the program for the entire power band. Maybe someday!
