Noisy diesel

I have an 00 (aka, the "ROCKCRUSHER") because of the robust mechanical music it produces. I also own an 05 (aka, the "WHISPEROCKET") for obvious reasons. I am curious what Cummins/Dodge did to make the latter year CTD's so much quieter than the older models?

The common rail diesels are so much quieter because instead of one large injection/combustion event they use several smaller injections during the power stroke.

Err, I should say during the compression stroke, not during the power stroke. The power stroke is what happens immediately after the fuel ignites.

I've heard, if they made them quiet more people would buy them. Or, a dealer could just tell someone it was a gasser!!

I drove one of them rockcrusher's for 203,000 miles, 2000 3500. Now I have one of them thats hard to hear and I miss the noise.

....and the 6.0 version is what you see on the roadside from time to time.

That,s what i agree on i had this problem .. and even a oil change and filter cleaning did help me fixing noise issue. I've heard, if they made them quiet more people would buy them. Or, a dealer could just tell someone it was a gasser!!
