I meant the 07 LBZ...thanks! I really think the conclusion would be different if all the trucks had the same gearing. That being said, it is Dodge's fault for having a 4sp tranny and that's why it lost. It is definitely not due to lack of power from the CTD. I personally hate the 48re and wish everyday that I would have gotten a stick.

I know that question wasn't directed to me, bu I'd like to add a granny gear to it and close the gap between 2-3 and 3-4 just a bit. Otherwise I'm happy with my 48re.

Hmm, I'm not sure, but it seems a bit high. I'll have to look into that.

I do not see that many 48RE biting the dust in stock form and if you raise the horsepower of the 5.9 it stands to reason you should raise the value of the drive train to match . The transmission shops I talk to see more of the Chevy Allison's then the 48RE's , what I don't know is if they were in stock configuration or boomed trucks .

I think CVT is a great idea. I would not be surprised to see some going that way in the future.( sorry, wrong placement. I thought I could post it after the cvt comment).

My biggest gripe with the 48RE is that it ought to have a lower stall converter since the cummins is pulling stumps off idle....

Mainly the loose TC. I have a 9,000 lb travel trailer and there are several hills where I hunt that I have to start/stop on 7% grades. I'll be running 2,500 RPM's and the truck is only doing 6 mph and heating the fluid like crazy. Until I get to 2nd lock the truck feel gutless. The second thing would be the lack of OD lockout, it is so irritating to drive through winding hills and have the 4-3, 3-4 shift every 30 seconds. Lastly would be the shifting patterns, it just never feels like it is shifting at the right time to me. That could be a personal preference but I find that I can easily confuse it all the time. My wife's Honda Pilot has a 5sp Auto and no matter what I do it is always in the right gear, it's so much nicer to drive her car only for that reason. Don't get me wrong I really like my truck but when I am able I will be either building the tranny or trading for a stick.

I have to agree about the torque converter. It's definately too loose.

Just a note, the '06 48re can lockout OD.
