Info on 06 DMAX, CTD vs Ford
hate to say it, but for the next couple of years the Duramax is gonna be king of the hill. and u cant compare 12v cummins with 24v, not really the same motor. and how can u compare medium duty motors to light duty motors? and dodge was not the basis for the cummins. it is used in a lot more applications than just the dodge. so dodge cant realy claim the fame of cummins. cummins is its own entity and dodge is lucky enough they get to put CUMMINS motor in their dodges. and CUMMINS has been around a lot longer than the Ram has been. that is the main thing im gettin sick of, dodge doesnt own cummins, they just getthe benefit of the cummins.
NOW THIS WILL GET FLAMED

I don't think the dmax will take over towing, it makes good power but it's still a V8 vs an inline. I think it'd be funny to see what it'd do in front of a 4spd auto...I imagine that being not so impressive. the Aisin oughta give a level baseline for comparing the autos.
You guys are borderline hypocritical wih all of the news about the new Duramax.
As soon as Chevy comes out with more power than Dodge, then all of a sudden power doesn't matter? Of course power matters, and GM is going to clean out the competition.
Dodge can counterpunch, but it seems to me that they'll wait until 2007. So we're all going to just have to suck it up until then and put up with the GM guy's bragging- we were bragging all for 2005, and now it's their turn.
But please sop the "power don't matter" excuse. You know that the Chevy guys are all over on their forums laughing at us, just like we were laughing at them a few years ago. By saying that power doesn't matter you're just making us all look bad...

Power doesn't matter? To whom? A Ricer?
I dunno 'bout you fellas, but power MATTERS HUGE-- and it just so happens that GM has the biggest stick right now, no matter how you slice it.
Do I lose sleep over it? Not at all. Trying to make an 02 king of the heap against 06s is sorta backwards to me. Besides, bomb for bomb a Cummins clears 1K hp, and easily clears 1K tq.
Stock power matters, but I had *no* intention of leaving my truck stock. If I wanted a stock Cummins (for reliability), I'd a bought a 12V.
I like the new ones, and they're all plenty impressive. But I *LOVE* the truck I have already, and it's a heck of a lot less money.
jmo
dude, what are you talking about, ricers are all about power! I mean, just look at all they invest into their wings, neon and bumper cooling scoops! Slap 'em stickers on there and it doubles the power output of any aesthetic powerspeed mod they've concocted. now that's a gearhead that can 'tune' all that stuff to make more power!
I don't think GM owns Isuzu, some kind of relationship they have had over many years....but not 100% positive. Sure the Cummins is in a bunch of different applications, boats, heavy equipment etc. What's wrong with that, if Case says to Cummins we want to put your engines in our dozers, backhoes, etc,etc it must mean something about the engine quality, durability. Most equipment don't use V motors, just inlines unless you get into the big stuff, 988's, 797's then they go 3408/3508s and bigger. I see Cheby coming out with more and more power, but I still would'nt take a new cheby 2500 dmax/allison over my Cummins powered Dodge....even trade....nope. We have a word around here for GM products period....and it is not suitable for this website...
In my opinion this test wasn't a comparison of engines anyway. It was a tranny test and the other two have more gears plain and simple. The fact that the Dodge was even able to stay close with it's far too loose TC and simple tranny tell you the power of the Cummins motor. I'd like to see the same test with all the trucks having 6spds......oh wait GM doesn't offer one with the new LLY.
i'm really interested to see how this 6spd auto works out, hopefully another improvement. the 48 was a nice improvement over the 47, but when you've still got to do a bunch of work on the 48 to make it hold...hmm.
You could get the 6 speed manual with the code LLY engine. Unfortunately it's detuned to 300/520 instead of the 360/650 figures of the code LBZ engine. Too bad GM ditched the manual altogether for 07. I may have to come over to the "dark side" when it's time to get a new truck.
