Question '06-'07 6.0 FORD vs DMAX

I know that ford has had a bad rep for the first 2 years or so with the 6.0; but what about the newer 06 and 07 models? Are those just as bad or people still brining up old issues? I've read they run good and pull good; maybe not as much on the bottom as a CTD but still good .Curious to know about them. How would they stack up against the DMAX for the same years. Been wondering about all this even though I know this is mostly dodge folks you guys are full of goooooooood info.

hey man, if you go over to powerstrokenation.com, they can help you out much more. my roommate has a 04 6.0, with over a 100k and never a problem. i have heard that the 06 and 07's seemed to have far fewer problems than the earlier years of the 6.0. my roomate just got back from near zelpher springs, fla. he borrowed my car hauler trailer, 3000 lbs, and took his cj-7 5000-6000lbs? down there. he got 9 mpg pulling that little of weight. i dont know what he was doin, but id get 8-10 with my 99 7.3 pulling about 20k. the 6.0's will scoot pretty good empty, loaded....................well

I would stick with a duramax. Bosch common-rail injection, and relatively few known issues, especially in later years. Resale value will be much better as well, and after driving both several hundred miles, I vastly prefer the GM truck verses the Ford.

The duramax in those years was much better. There were some initial problems with the glow plug controller on the LBZ's but once that was fixed, they have done quite well. The 6.0 did get a lot better in '05 but it still suffered from lots of problems with head gaskets, turbos, injectors, oil leaks and other things.

If you want to compare the entire truck, I think the chevy is the better option unless you need to hang a ton of weight off the front.

I would take a duramax anyday of a 6 liter ford. I would just stay away from a brand new truck if you are looking. dont buy one that has all the DPF crap. buy like an 06 truck and save yourself some heartache

I'll take the D-Max any day over the Ford. Again Bosch CR, Allison tranny and a Cadillac ride. I hardly hear of any problems with the D-Max. I have owned a 6.0 and you see what I'm driving now

The GM is definitely a better highway truck. The IFS makes it ride like a light truck and they are quiet, however I don't know they are any quieter (engine wise) than the current CR. The engines aren't even comparable between Ford and GM, Ford is struggling since the 7.3. The DM is doing well in its 5th or 6th revision since inception, each with their own quirks.

A friend of mine traded his 03 6.0 PS (big problems) and got an 06 he hasn' t had a problem with the new one. Mileage isn't as good as my 07 LBZ though. I have been very happy with mine. The auto has perfect ratios for the diesel and pulls like a champ. I'll regret saying this here butStock for stock they'll pull with any cummins or better. I was surprised with the down low grunt even being a V8. Max torque is developed at the same RPM as the cummins. I don't know much about the dorkshift but the tow/haul on the allison is hard to beat. My .02

Yep - I forgot to mention the Allison trans. Excellent automatic, one of the few auto's I've ever felt I could live with. That right there makes the deal for me. As for IFS, well Dodge will have IFS on the REAR in '09 on 1500's, this is 2008, not 1968.

I talked to a few people who work at GM dealerships and that great Allison trans has its own set of problems and is not 100% trouble free.

yeah, broken NSBU issues. 50 dollar part, if the dealer isnt an idiot and knows how to diagnose it correctly. It is a very good auto trans, but nobody said it was trouble free, they also have problems with converter drainback and in extreme cold (-40) the trans cooler lines are too restrictive so the pump cavitates and burns up the converter. There is nothing mechanical that is trouble free.
