Diesel Replacement?
I see way to many holes in that article. I cannot see a 5.0 putting out 500hp/700tq without some serious modifications for longivity. With the mods needed the price delta between that and a diesel will probably be nil.
Then there's less BTU's with gasoline and ethanol. So the effeciency is still not quite there.
And I hate the thought of needing two fuels.

they really need to learn math....
if the diesel pick get better mileage... ok for comparsion, but a small sample
my 2000doge ram gas get 14 MPG. gas $4/gallon.
my 99dodge ram diesel get 21MPG..diesel 4.70 gallon
21MPG over 14 MPg is a %50 increase...for 0.70 cents per gallon..
diesel doesn't cost %50 percent more!!
500 HP out of a 5 L..might be possbile GM get 120HP/L using direct injection fo gas but their diagram isn't direct injection..so I'm skeptical..
I'll stay with diesels and biodiesel..

your running alcohol = higher heat = stressed and blown engine
ethanol and methanols both attract wayyy too much water and do not mix with water just seperate. they have a short shortage life and are useless.

i've heard the alcohol fuels are cool burning..not hot.. they both have higher octane ratings than gasoline. around 110 instead of 87-93.
ethanol and methanol do not separate with water..its only when gasoline is added that there is a problem. and don't add fiberglass( I don't if epoxy or vinyl esters are the problem). I would suspect vinyl esters.

just the same I'll stick with diesel or better biodiesel

$1500 extra for this set up? More complex ECU, extra fuel tank, injectors, fuel system, sensors. Then you actually need to make this engine survive at 700 lb-ft (forget the 500 hp, that will be all RPM). Stronger rods, bottom end. Needs to be made to commercial standards atleast, not just automotive if this is the replacement for the diesel engines. The retail price difference only $1500, but the production costs difference will be greater.
I'd be happy to watch Ford's experiment from the sidelines. Be one more nail in their coffin.

That would be expensive.
