replacement 6.2l GM Diesel

My FD has an old forestry service truck with a 6.2l diesel that has some internal problems. I know that the GOV ordered tons of these as replacement engines and many of these are still in a wharehouse and have never been run. Does anybody know were I could find some of these for sale? I have looked on govdeals and govliquidation with no luck. We are not looking to put a cummins in there, and know the less than stellar reputation of the 6.2, so I do not need any junk it or swap it comments please. If anybody knows where i could pick one of these up, then thank you.

about 6 years ago i bought a 6.5L TD for my 83 suburban from a place in NY that was a gov serp. dealer I will ask my wife to see if she can dig up the invoice . its been a few years .I found them by Googling. my 6.2 I had 325k on the ODO before it cracked the heads .Even after the 6.5TD swap I wish I would of saved the cash for the Cummins swap because we tow with it and the 6.2/6.5s run way to hot to tow heavy and as you already know the Cummins is a stellar towing Engine.
this might help you also

Just get a GM crate motor. It wont be a 6.2 but a 6.5NA. They are a direct replacment. Ive seen a few older Chevys around here with them. My dad bought his 84 6.2 new and just a few weeks ago sold it to my younger brother with 260,000 miles. Never touched the engine other than glow plugs once while under warentie and a new IP at 100K. Wish I woulda known he was selling it so cheap I woulda bought it. Great old truck.
