Lightbulb weak horn idea?

With the horn complaints around here, what would happen if you would run 24 volts to the horn instead of the 12v (I assume it's 12v)? Would it get louder? Or just melt? Inquiring, bored minds want to know.

I think I smell smoke. Damage caused when the 24vdc smokes the relays (not just the horn one). I wouldn't do it. Nat

You will let the magic smoke out of something in the circuit.

I think it would look like a steam horn on an old train (lol)

I don't know what would happen if you had 24 V to play with...

My question would be: Where are you planning to get 24V from?

Run a special circuit off both batteries connecting them in series??

I'm not sure what the other implications of such wiring might be to the charging system or any other electical system but I am pretty sure of one thing and the end result woudl not be good - sparks, smoke, possible explosions.....

Sure Pos of Battery 1 to Neg of battery 2, then use Pos of battery 2 and neg of battery 1 for 24 volts..Great idea if you have two independant batteries - but hey, there's other stuff in the middle...and (I assume!) both neg. terminals on the batteries are grounded to the frame(and connected to each other) - so connecting #1 positive to #2 negative is basicaly the same as shorting battery #1 pos to its own Negative..NOT a good thing & You'll only do it once, and not for too long! Don't belive me? Drop a wrench across the battery terminals & see what happens!

Not to mention I'm sure the Horn is grounded to frame as well so there is no way to achieve 24V from the two batteries in the truck, at least with their standard factory configuration - you'd need a third independent 12V battery, NOT grounded to the frame, to get 24V - and I'm not sure off hand how you'd connect that to the charging system & avoid the problems I described above...

I agree with Nevada all electrical circuits work on smoke if you let the smoke out they don't work anymore. At least that is my theory.

Ok I'll own up to this one! Just an idea I had after I read a post somewhere about someone using an old 6v chevy horn on 12 volts, supposedly made it much louder. I actually think my horn is loud enough? Must have been thinking about my trolling motor batteries. Hmmm, time to go fishing! Thanks, John
