I don't know what you mean by geometry for the pitman. The Pitman just links the box to the draglink on a lower plane. The only geometry involved is the draglink, and if the truck is lifted without addressing this the steering geometry is wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this new steering set-up requires a new pitman arm that is at a different angle? I'm gonna have to look back, but I was under the impression that under full compression the older style pitman arm would force the drag link to come into contact with the truck?

I'll post back what I find...

Found it, post #94.

Here's the link: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...6&postcount=94

Looks as though a pitman arm with an additional 2" of drop won't require an angle change, as it's going to move the drag link further down.

Sorry

Its the stud that connects the drag link to the pitman arm that is what can hit the tie rod on the new style setups under suspension compression. The updated pitman arm has less of an angle on the drag link end so the stud will clear the tie rod at full compression. I would also be interested in seeing this drop pitman arm and how the angles relate to the old and new style OEM pitman arms.

Yeah, I don't know about that. My new tire rods and draglink went on with the old pitman, initially. The droids that installed it didn't seem to care, but that's to be expected. Then I replaced the pitman myself. The steal-er boys were probably hoping I'd be back in another year for new tie rods again after it was out of warranty, but that ain't happenin'.

It looks just the opposite to me, maybe I am missing something. Moving the drag link further down with a 2" drop pitman arm looks like it is just going to make this problem worse. It looks like any little bit of suspension compression will cause the stud to nail the center link.

The only drawback to the old style is the draglink joints are clocked a bit more, but I checked it lock-to-lock and it does not bind. This is basically a result of Dodge just going ahead and slapping new hardware on old trucks to band-aid a problem. But if I was having it done under warranty on a truck without any lift, I'd be checking it real close.

Then remind them they also need to do the pitman.

Looks like you're wrong again, hound. Have you actually been under one of these trucks with this particular hardware? Don't forget we're talking about at least two inches lift:

I'd go take a picture, but I'd rather not.

mcolectd--check the bolts on your track bar. i don't have the torque specs in front of me for these two bolts but they are somewhere around 175ft. lbs. If they are even a little loose, they can cause a clunking while turning like you are describing. Also, with your leveling kit, you might want to consider an adjustable track bar. It will recenter your axle under the truck and a unit like the one sold by Don Thuren is MUCH beefier than the stock unit.
Ok, I appreciate it, I'll look into that. I know I need the track bar. I'm prolly gonna do that this summer when I got some extra cash comin in.

Is this the upgraded steering guys? Looks a lot like the setup on my 99, which leads me to believe it is?

Hard to tell from those pics, but that looks like it, although the tubing size seems smaller in those pics. Maybe they have different sizes of the same parts? There's better pics earlier in the thread....

Im almost positive that these are the new style, even as the newer style steering stabilizer. Anyone have photos of the old style?

Is this set up pretty easy to DIY. Ive done the KORE leveling kit and Thuren track bar myself. If it is an easy DIY'R, can someone give me the torque specs.

Thanks

If you can seperate the tie rods, you can DIY.

For that all I would need is one of those froks like for ball joints right?
