Upgraded steering

My 2006 is still in basic warranty and we have the Chrysler extended warranty also. The truck has 30k and the steering has always seemed ok with no more "wander" than I expect from a 3/4 ton straight axle truck. I am still trying to figure out if I should take my truck in and have this upgrade done. I dont really have alot of confidence in dealership alignments so I would take it to my alignment shop and have that rechecked.

I would recommend that you have the TSB done to your 2006! The new steering linkage is SO MUCH bigger and better than the the ones that came on our trucks. So is the steering damper. Although you may not have a problem now, IMO, there is a chance you could at a later date once the stock components begin wearing out. I NEVER thought my 2006 would EVER develop the "Death Wobble"!
But,.......it did!
I wanted to also let you know that only the Chrysler "Maximum Care" Extended Warranty will cover that TSB Repair. I found out two weeks ago that the Chrysler "Added Care" does NOT cover it.
Take care and good luck.

So an 07 model with 33k on the clock won't be covered for this TSB?
It is covered under your basic 3yr/36,000mi bumper-to-bumper warranty.
Well, I had no idea the can of worms I would open by posting my origional question. I never had any death wobble or abnormal handing before, just an annoying clunk in the front end which was likely the worn ball joints.
I now have a little over 36,000 miles on my '06 and have towed over 6000 miles with the new steering. So far so good, the truck still feels like it did when it was brand new.

Yes it will. John was talking about different types of extended warranties. I took my '08 with 35,800 miles in and they ordered the parts and started the paperwork. I now have 39,200 miles on and am still waiting for the parts but they will be installed under warranty since the paperwork was started <36,000 miles.

BroncoHound, thanks for the help and clarification on that Sir!

For any of you guys that are OVER the 3/36 Basic Chrysler Warranty, it WILL be covered if you have the Extended Chrysler "Maximum Care" Warranty (7/100,000, but NOT if you have the lesser "Added Care" Warranty.
Hope that helps.

I have 43K on my 07. They probably won't cover it under warranty but I'm trying to decide if I should do it myself? I havn't had any problems, other than a clunk in the steering wheel when I'm on the brakes and turning and I can't figure out what it is. It started about 10k miles ago, and I've checked everything I can think of and it feels fine. What do yall think that is?

Maybe. Its driving me crazy though. As far as DW or just driving I havn't had any problems so I dono if I need to do the steering upgrade or not. But I gotta figure this out cause i can't stand it
Thanks for the headsup Hound. Haven't had DW and truck feels solid and straight still. But with my warranty fading into the past I'm wondering if I should head on in and see if they will change everything out anyway.
They should, James. My dealership did. I've never had DW before and frankly don't have any issues with the old-style setup. However, since it came out in '08 and was available on some '08s but not MY '08 I almost feel obligated to go get the free, bigger, beefier parts...lol
mcolectd--check the bolts on your track bar. i don't have the torque specs in front of me for these two bolts but they are somewhere around 175ft. lbs. If they are even a little loose, they can cause a clunking while turning like you are describing. Also, with your leveling kit, you might want to consider an adjustable track bar. It will recenter your axle under the truck and a unit like the one sold by Don Thuren is MUCH beefier than the stock unit.

My truck is a 2005 3500 dually quad cab. Only has 27K on it and never been off-roaded or abused.
I got my parts the other day, WOW is the only word, they are at least 2x the size of the parts on there, very happy with them.
I'm going to install them once it gets a bit warmer, and then have the toe adjusted at an alignment shop. I also have the steering brace to install to, however am going to put that on during the lift since I'll have to drop it all again anyway. But yeah, parts are well worth it. Not sure what I'll do with the stock set..... Maybe spare off road set? E-bay??

Has anyone had an issue with dealer replacment and having a ssss or other aftermaket parts on. (ie dropblocks, lift springs and such).
Just wondering if I should waist my energy with the dealer or do the fix myself.
