Upgraded steering
Just some FYI because I haven't seen it mentioned yet. I just installed the upgraded steering on my 05 with a 5" lift and the new pitman arm is not neccessary due to the drag link joint being mounted from under the drop pitman arm. I never had DW so I can't comment on that, but bump steer seems to have been eliminated.
Yes, the lift came with the drop pitman arm. Out of curriosity, is anyone making a drop pitman arm with the angle change? I don't see what the benefit would be since the draglink joint mounts from the underside of the pitman arm.
Anybody following this thread see this yet??

Appears that our new steering linkage is being recalled due to failing inner tie rod end and drag link. Just great, glad i didn't install mine yet. Good waste of $300 and now i have a carli stabilizer that won't go on my old linkage, thanks again dodge!!

Hello I need to install this new setup in my truck. What i need to know if it will work with my Rize 8 inch. lift kit. I think it will, just will not need the new pitmin arm because of there set up in the steering system. They have trick steup for the lift/steering setup. If you have done it in a lifted truck please let me know. Can any one answer this question. Thank you for your help.
I am considering doing this to my truck. I have a 4" superlift. I bought the truck with it on it so i dont know anything about it. I found the what i think to be the kit on superlifts web site and it includes a pitman arm in the picture. Does this mean i would not need to purchase one? Thanks
You might want to read the 1st thread on this forum that talks about the recall dealing with the "new steering kit" from Dodge before you make any desision about installing this kit right now.
I looked back and re-read the first few posts and didnt see anything about it being a recall?? Is it infact a recall? I would have thought the dealer would have had to fix it before they sold it to me? Should i be calling and raising hell?
If you got the kit ending in AE then you are good to go. If you got the kit ending in AA, AB, AC, or AD then your new parts fall under the recall. As for the pitman arm, if you have a drop pitman arm on your suspension lift, the re-angled one from Mopar shouldn't be needed.
ok. had me a little nervous there. So i dont need a new pitman arm. The dealer just replaced the linkage connecting to the pitman arm, would i replace that one as well as the tierod ends and stuff? Thanks again.
aborgardt:
I had read that TSB/Recall and it had said it applied to the 2008-2009 Dodge CTD CR Ram 2500 and 3500 Series Trucks. I had talked to my Dodge Technician and the steering linkage that they put on my 2006 under warranty on that DW TSB, was from a Sterling 4500 Cab/Chassis Truck, so my Tech said he thought this new TSB applied to what was on the 2008-2009's and not the parts they used on mine for DW from the Sterling 4500 Cab/Chassis
Trucks. But, they could be wrong to...........
Hope that helps.
The drag link and a one piece tie rod, along with a new steering damper, is what gets replaced. The drag link is the connecting linkage between the pitman arm and the tie rod.
I just bought the kit through my dealor and he said that the pitman arm was not needed. He also said a total of 30 were sold in the entire US vs the kit which has sold over 400. A friend installed it so far no issues but I have not got under the truck to see what it looks like. So do you need the pitman arm or not? I am not running the baja, just street driving with beach time in the summer.
