Source Automotive had some in stock when I checked last week. You might want to check with them.

what i've learned

So far i know a few things about my situation. I have the wobble and shimmy as most of us do. I replaced the steering shock with a rancho to see if the shimmy would go away, it did for a while. I've been needing an alignment for a while now. well i've got the wobble real bad now!. went to a 4x4 shop and learned some things. my 05 2500 is lifted 5" has 35's on it and have never had an issue till now, 59,250 miles later. First i replaced the factory steering shock with an inferior shock. the one I used is a rancho but i dont think the brand matters. what matters is the ratio of the shock. the factory shock has a ratio of 70/40 and was designed for the truck specificaly. the rancho and others i guess have a 50/50 ratio that contributes to some of this issue. my guy at the 4x4 shop had someone with the same issue, replaced the shock with the factory one and added the 50/50 shock to the other side for a double shock system. first you have the correct shock plus your adding more road shimmy stability with the other. my tie rods are giving out after almost 60 k. with the lift and larger tires it creates more pressure on the whole system and there goes the weakest link my tie rods. the only reason why i have the wobble is bad tie rods created by the extra pressures that the lift and tires have caused. i've had other vehicles do the same (cars) with the same effect. fix the tie rods and it goes away. i went to the dealer for the upgraded steering so it doesnt cost me a mint. my truck was fine with no issues till now, so we'll see what happens. my simple advice is this. rotate and balance your tires often especially if the are 33 or bigger. i would do it about every 5k at least but now its more like 2k-2.5k. alignment check every 3-6 months. i've only had 2 of them done since ive owned the truck 3.5 yrs now. remember find someone who knows what they are doing and you trust and stay on top of the alignment and balance issue and you shouldnt have an isssue till things wear out and they will. a straght axle will give you fairly even tire wear and tracking but dont rely on the wear and feel of the steering, get it checked often! hope this helps.

The below happen to a friend of mine when he went to purchase the "new" steering kit parts---

"So today I tried to buy the parts and now they don't want to sell them to me because those part numbers fall under a safety recall, said service dept will do if for me... so my call was transferred & service says my vin is not listed so can't do it and to just buy the parts if I need them. , I said I tried that so they said ..I can't help you."

Maybe they should use some of that bail out money to improve their customer service and communications with their current customers!!!!!!

A local frind of mine went to his selling dealer who had sold him the "AB" steering part upgrades. Upon showing him the receipt they handed over the replacement recall fix parts and sent him on his way...no charge. That's the way it should be.

Dealer, Hinkley Dodge, upgraded mine with no hassle. Enabled the high idle for $27. First time truck has been to the dealer. Not even the selling dealer as I bought the truck out of state. Had the parts in stock, in at 0800 and done at 1430. Service writer knew what I was talking about, "we don't call it death wobble" as well as the high idle...all in all a positive experience. Steering feels more responsive, but that could be in my head.

I got steering and track bar installed and it went pretty well, I originally had a dual steering stabilizer and can't make it work with the new tie-rod, looks like I might have to fabricate or modify the bracket to mount onto the new thicker tie-rod ,or if anyone knows of a bolt on application I'd be appreciative, I guess to search for the bracket go with an 08 3500?? as that is what the ae steering actually goes on??

once you have them uploaded to photobucket, just copy and past the "img" URL. it should look something like [img]your url here[/ img] but without the space between the / and the img at the end.

Death Wobble

Just got mine back from the dealer. TSB for 03-07. Looks alot beefier and they also replaced my pitman arm. Had it in for what I described as death wobble and they immediately said we will take care of it. I also had a leak in the steering gear box and they replaced that as well. All under warranty with an alignment to boot.

Hopefully they did not install the "AB" cuz there is a safety recall out on that one.

Just took mine in, I've got 29K miles.

I don't really have the wobble (yet?) but I'm getting an aftermarket suspension setup and the owner of the shop said to get the upgraded steering put in before the suspension work.

Dealership service writer said he'd never heard of the problem or the TSB. Good thing I had printed it out so I could hand it to him...he stapled it to the work order.

Work order says "warranty" in the cost column, so hopefully it'll get taken care of.

Called my dealership... Blake Fulenwider in Clyde, Texas... told them I found the TSB and Scott said "come and see me." They knew all about it, thought they had parts in stock and even told me they call it the Death Shake.

*UPDATE*
It's covered under warranty.

But parts are on national backorder. Specifically, he said the tie-rod ends are backordered. Dealership has no idea when they might arrive. They'll call me when they come in.

In the meantime, I get my truck back.
But I can't get my smooth-ride suspension put in until I get this TSB taken care of
