New DCX pickup cures big-cabin fever
The Dodge Ram Mega Cab should dwarf other trucks in passenger space.
By Brett Clanton / The Detroit News
The concept of less is more does not apply in the world of full-size pickups. When it comes to trucks, big is always better.
That's why DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group will one-up the competition this summer with a new Dodge pickup that boasts the industry's largest passenger cabin.
The four-door Dodge Ram Mega Cab has a bigger backseat and more interior storage space than the current title-holder -- Ford's F-250 Crew Cab -- and is squarely aimed at customers who want to be able to haul both a pile of lumber and a family.
Chrysler is expected to take the wraps off Mega Cab at the Chicago Auto Show next week
Mega Cab is based on the heavy-duty Ram 2500 series underbody, and is expected to be available with a 345-horsepower V-8 Hemi engine and a rear-seat DVD player. It will be marketed as the biggest cab in the industry, beating the Ford F-250 Crew Cab, which has 133 cubic feet of interior cabin volume.

I hope they announce a Cummins moter in Chicago, Mega/Hemi is not on my list. I want mega with a diesel. If this is only in gas, the research department blew it again. Is there a big market for Mega/Hemi?
If they only are going to offer it in one duty or another, it would almost certainly be in the heavy duty line only mainly due to the required weight ratings of the suspension components. I did read that it was expected in the HD line first and the light duties next year.
Given that it's available for the HDs, there wouldn't be any reason not to be able to get it with the Cummins.

I dont want a suburban. I want more cabin room with a pickup bed. I'm sure it will still be a truck. Get yourself a regular cab bare bones model if want to feel like your truck is a truck.
Probably need to remove any AC and power accessories two ...

Great article, thanks Shawn! I'm sure the Mega Cab will be available with the CTD because that's what HDs are all about. My question is will the Quad Cab still be available. And it looks like DC wants a big premium for it, $33,000 base MSRP compared to $29,000 for a 2005 2500 Quad Cab SLT 4X2 SWB! Maybe now is the best (and last?) time to get the tried and true Quad Cab. Anyway, most of our questions should be answered next week at the Chicago Auto Show. I just hope it doesn't look too much like an Avalanche!
PS: Maybe Mr. Tomeygun will enlighten us.

Being a Ford owner, I'm really thinking of jumping ship. The styling is getting old to my liking. The MC with either short or long would be fine with me. I am more concerned if they are concidering an increase in displacement and also a updated A/T to keep up with the diesel wars. But then again out of the big three the cummins is the best. IMO I saw the report last week where ford lost sales and overall profit is down. If DC comes out with a whole new combo cab/6.7/6speed AT, you will see an even bigger loss in profit (jmo)
