I was messing around on the dodge website the other day, building a truck and was very surprised to see what was available as drivetrain options. First off I was not able to select a 6 speed auto tranny option for the new megacab/shortbed or quadcab/lb with a 5.9. only with the 6.7. Then I noticed that the rear axle dimension changed with each engine selection. Apperantly you now get a 10.5" AAM rear end with the 5.9 and can only get the 11.5"AAM rear with the 6.7! Am I going crazy or dont all third gens prior to either 07 or 08 come with the 11.5 inch rear?? And with the Selection of the 6.7 it automatically selects the electric trasfer case switch. Does anyone know if you have a choice in these matters? If not I'll just stay happily where Im at!

Yeah I am suprised that it let you build a new truck with the 5.9 engine option at all. It is sadly no longer offered.

Megacab only comes with the electronic transfer case.

I was just on the dodge site and I think when you "build a truck" it is only for searching current inventory. I bet if you went to a dealer and tried to order a 5.9 you wouldn't be able to.

6.7 IS the only engine choice, AAM 11.5 rear diff, auto or std tranny, I believe they still offer the manual transfer case on the QC's but not the MegaCabs-ductwork for rear seating interferes with using the manual transfer case.

The electronic **** isn't so bad, first time for me to have one and it works just fine, actually kind of nice and easy. Very LOW failure rate, just a few here and there. It did not stop me getting the truck I wanted - Mega, I did not want a QC as I needed the interior space.

So my 07 5.9 6sd doesn't have the AAM 11.5 rear end? hmmm I thought it did.

It does. All the new diesels have the 11.5 AAM.

The 360 gas engine is a 5.9l. I doubt it has been brought back, though...

Carsdirect.com had 5.9s for sale but said something about mining use only and they wouldn't go over 30MPH.
