We decided to get rid of this grain truck...

A friend decided he wanted the old grain truck gone. So we decided to put it on the trailer and take it to the scrap yard for a little $$, since steel prices are high. This is an old International Harvester, we took the bed off. It had a GVW of 21K, but I don't know how much it weighed. We pulled it a fairly short distance from the farm, and we used chains, straps, and blocked the tires. We used his 95 CTD 5spd with larger turbo and #5 plate to pull it on his 18' trailer. It was a close fit.

Cool pictures. That truck would have been a good candidate for a cummins transplant.

I'm a sucker for old IH trucks. My dad has a 69 and 78 loadstar. both are 4x4 gassers. The old one has a highway post hole digger on the back, while the 'new' one has a sterling type digger. We work the 78 at least twice weekly doing small utility lines and pole barns. He shifts the 404 gasser in the 78 at almost five grand in every gear of the straight 5sp and that motor just won't die prolly make a heck of a diesel conversion for international! (just kidding)

It would have been cool with a 12 valve CTD with twins and some stacks. As for the trailer, my friend is a JD fanatic. Every tractor & combine on the farm, including the riding mower is John Deere. He even collects JD models.

I saw a guy doing the EXACT same thing as you just did, only he got busted by DOT and it looked as if they were having a field
day with him.

I had a 73 International moving truck minus the 18 box that should have been on it. Never got to drive it legally but it was a finished project in my mind. I do like the way those uglys look!

I talked to my friend yesterday and he said on the receipt from the dump it was under 8,000 lbs. Not as bad as I expected.
