Removed the baffle
Removed the baffle
Well after reading on the threads about removing the silencer ring and baffle I decided to take out the baffle, waiting on the silencer ring for now. I was picturing a little air foil thing, but when I pulled this honking piece of foam out too it was crazy! That thing had to be blocking like 33% of the tube's cross section. I can't wait to see if I can hear a difference. Anyway, thanks guys for the info!
Here is that thread: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...r+ring+removal
This is for a 6.7L keep in mind, didn't see a truck in your signature. The process for a 5.9L is much simpler.

There should be an egt reduction after removing the restriction/baffle.
Removing the silencer ring is more of a preference for a change in sound.
I swapped out my intake hose for a smooth bore hose with one of my old Scotty Air 5 intakes and saw 200F reduction towing. I put the factory box back on only because I have not succeeded in finding a competent fab shop here to make a coupler that can accommodate both sensors and not look like a monkey built it.
These 6.7's respond well to getting air in and air out. Probably because they were choked so bad from the factory. JMO

Thanks for the input. A little part of me says don't take it off, the engineer had it there for a reason, but what reason? More than just sound reduction? I read arguments about airflow, but also someone said that they had not seen any present in commercial applications, which if true leads me to believe it was just there for sound reduction.
Any one here seen the 6.7 with same turbo on other applications? Was the silencer ring present?

removing the silencer ring only increases the ever joyful whistle of the turbo which puts smiles on our faces but if you look at its design closely, it (when in place) guides the air into the turbo, remove it and there is turbulence around the outside edge which makes it less efficient. ya want more whistle, put on an aftermarket intake.
