want to add high idle

I understand there is a high idle feature for auto's, using the cruise controll, but I have the six speed. I need to let the truck run for a while here and there, with the puppydog inside, and would like to have a/c work in summer, and/or enough engine heat in winter to keep from doing damage. Anyone know of a way to get the 6 spd programmed yet, or is there a decent aftermarket high idle that will work?

Dennis

Ive heard of people adding switches and relays in some fashion to fool the computer into thinking thers an auto and alowing the TSB to work. Or something like that. Sorry I cant help much but I to wish we could get it to work on our trucks withought all the added hasle. I hope someone comes up with something easy for us because it would be nice to have.

In the fire service and EMS we all use a "high idle" switch. It's necessary to keep volts up (your alternator makes very little juice sitting at idle). Any way- I looked at adding the same type used in emergency vehicles- it's made by Kusmal, maybe you can find it n Google? I didn't do it due to price- you must purchase each part separately- including a controler which is a must, . The way you suggest may be possible and cheaper?

It's a simple TSB reprogram (covered by warranty) for the automatics. In park or neutral, you can use the cruise buttons to enable two levels of high idle. Unfortunately, I have the 6 speed and it is not an option.

On a side note -- I asked the dealer about high idle options for my truck and all I got was "It will void your engine warranty". I hate dealer bs. The answer to ANY question I ask them about my truck is "that will void your warranty". I had my worn out door seals replaced under warranty on a TSB. They tried to void it saying that I used the door too much. #*%@()

I can't recall reading about that kind of mod on this site (or the other one for that matter).

There are some pricey aftermarket options out there, but nothing that met my cost considerations. Try a search here, its been discussed often.

It'd be nice to have the cc high idle function on hand shakers.

For now, I'll continue to use a stick.

I heard its a liability issue on the 6 speeds because the ECM doesnt know what gear the tranny is in and DC's response is "what if it falls into gear and hurts someone?"

On my 91 auto, it was sitting in the driveway idling, I had to run into the garage real fast, it fell into reverse, went across the street and into the neighbors living room! The moral is that auto or manual they can both go into gear at idle.

I cant see why DC cant enable it with the Parking brake on, or at least make us sign a liability contract or something because I want the high Idle on my 6 spd!

Doesn't BD have some sort of high idler?
I'm properly valved and pumped so none of that fancy stuff works, but I've got a good idea floating around in that empty space up north!

Good Luck,
Chris

Winter seems like more of a problem for you than summer in terms of idleing. I remember reading somewhere that an exhaust brake on the 6 shooters would basically provide the same functionality as the back-pressure retains heat in the engine. Just a thought anyhow?
