Question 2 extra quarts in the trans, to add or not to add /

i have been told by some different people that i should add 2 extra quarts of oil to the transmission to extend the life of it. has anybody ever herd of this and is it really needed for our transmissions.

the dealer told me that to add the extra oil you would have to do it through the top under the carpet.

all opions please

Add only enough to show between the lines on the stick idling hot in neutral.

Trannys are very sensitive to over filling.

If you want more oil in there get the deep pan and add the extra oil.

Guys he is talking about an NV5600 6 speed manual, not a 48RE. I don't know much about the manuals, but I think there is a way to add extra oil in the top of them. We need a 6 speed manual guy to jump in here with info.

If you tow heavy and tow a lot, the extra quart will help. If you are looking for a location to fill from take the top bolt out of the PTO cover and fill from there.

Like HOBrian I use the top PTO bolt hole to get the extra fluid in.

I added about 1 1/2 litres over full to my NV5600 a month ago. I filled it through the top PTO cover bolt hole with a squeeze bottle.

It made a noticable difference. It shifts smoother and easier, and reduced the gear noise in 6th gear a fair bit.
