Trans temp sensor and 2 quarts later...

Finnally got my trans temp sensor in on my feed line to the cooler. I was getting so ticked off, the fitting would not go into the transmission side for anything, finnally when i got it in i had 2 huge blisters on my fingers and 2 quarts of ATF4 in the bucket (used a old dirty bucket because I didnt think this would happen). cant find ATF4 at any parts store, so i had to make the 18 mile run to the nearest dodge dealership. 36 miles round trip for $8 worth of trans oil, burned more in fuel then the trans oil cost.

That's funny. I just went through the exact same thing. Except I didn't have a bucket. I thought just a little would run out,,,,but no. What's your temp running at.

And I thought I was the only one who had that problem. I luckily was able to let my truck sit overnight though so it was nice and cool to work on.

Normally in the winter (under 20) my temp never goes above 100. I made a cold weather front for it (they had synthetic vynal at the fabric place), 7 bucks for 9 square feet, so I made my own. Now my temps get up right at about 100 to 120. Also lets the motor say warmer and all that. When stoped at lights it will go up to 180 if you idle for a long time. Anytime there's a load on the tranny and it slips it'll go up. if your sitting for a while you can put it in Nuetral to lower it a bit, and as soon as the converter locks I see temps drop back to 100 in about a minute. Also if your in gear I notice my EGT's go up to about 400 and won't drop untill in park or Neutral. Just how the tranny works. I deffinatly recomend the cold weather front if your in the cold, mine warms up 3x faster, stays warmer (when that cold the thing warms up, then the thermostat opens and drops back down, then it repeats) it's only around 10 here so it never got hot, cold front it gets nice and toasty and the motor runs at about 180 where it should. Runs much better in my opinion. I drove 20 miles to work and it only got to 140 when I got to work. Def. good to have in my opinion.
