Undetectable Chip on 05 ctd?
Hey all, I'm new here and want to get a chip for my 05 CTD but don't want to void the warranty. My friends at black cloud diesel (blackclouddiesel.com) told me that the Edge Juice w/ Attitude was undetectable becasue it was post pcm and therefore undetectable. Is this true? I was told by a friend who is a Dodge tech that there are ways of detecting if a chip was installed, does this apply to all chips or only certain models? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

George, ANY chip or fuel module that is put on a third gen can be detected. ...dont believe the guys that sell chips. DC will void your warranty at the drop of a hat if they can.

My buddy has a 3rd Gen chipped for last 2 years, and has had in for warranty only a couple of times(1 recently),where they may have done a scan check. They were for minor problems only, with no problem noted by dealer. I showed him how to clear codes, and checked with my scanner, no history of anything. (I know you are your own warranty station) .
I was told they could not tell if you had one on WITH ONLY CERTAIN BRANDS OF CHIPS(his is predator), if you cleared memory same as 2nd gen. But I have had no other 3rd gen tests to back this up yet, maybe someone who has been denied warranty will chime in.

I really dont know a whole lot about the third gens, but I do know that if you ever had a problem with the fuel system...lift pump, IP etc. anything that will cost the dealer big $ - they will dig into the software to see if there has been any increase in boost, fuel pressure, exhaust gas temps, etc. Its all there for them - they just have to do the investigating.

thanks everybody
Thanks everybody for the info. I have one more question about the warranty, will an AFE intake or Aeroturbine cat back exhaust system void warranty? I bought the extended warranty and want the dealerships to honor it. Again, any info would be appreciated.

My buddy had his in for lift pump replacement, I'm sure they would've scanned it for that. It came back "clean" so to speak, and dealer never said anything to him. Clearing previous fueling/timing/pressure parameters from predator chip, must've worked O.K. if they c/o under warranty.

Then I should retract what I said......I dont own a third gen...but this is what ive been told. Its worth mentioning that I know a guy that had his warranty voided and he bought the box at the dealership. Some dealers are just better to work with than others.

An Edge Juice w/Attitude won't have egt reading or defueling unless you install the pyro probe, if you do that it will be that much harder to remove when you take it in for service.

As Dr. Evil said, finding a good dealer to do warranty work, may be half the battle,as I have also found this to be quite true. I brought in mine for lift pump c/o. under warranty at 90,000kms took off chip and cleared memory, but inadvertently left only the velcro on top of power distribution box from VanAaken chip. First dealer denied because of velcro, went to another and it was done no questions asked.

torque, That's why I don't use velcro, leaves marks on fuse box. I zip tie my box to the fuse box when warrenty work is to be done cut ties no marks! It looks kinda oakie, but it will have to do until warrenty is out.

That was about 2 1/2+ years ago, when chips(mine was a VA towing module) left on truck weren't too big/or of any issue(at least here). The dealer even sold and installed them on brand new trucks . Now if I was still in warranty (over 200,000kms now),I wouldn't even CONSIDER giving dealer ANY reason to deny, and would zip tie down for no trace of it. [eyecraz
