Bullydog undetectable??

Ok so im talking with this guy at a shop where i got my road armor bumpers installed today, he had an 05 ctd getting a dual exhaust, i think mbrp, anyways he asked me if i had any downloader or chip in it, i said no cause im afraid of losing my warranty. he told me he had the bully dog, i dont recall which one but he said a diesel tech told him how to avoid getting harrased at service dept. if he had that. all you have to do is return to stock, AND CLEAR ALL THE CODES YOU MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN,

he said almost everyone returns to stock, but not everyone clears the codes, and if they pick up the codes they know for sure you had something, but if you clear, its very hard almost impossible to prove you had anything on..

I asked if he had done it and he said that he toasted his torque converter a few months ago took everything of, cleared codes and all, they try to drill him about having a chip and what not, even got on the phone with someone from out of town saying that they know he had something, and he denied it and since they couldnt prove it they put in a new torque converter all under warranty.

he also stated that the only thing they had going for them was the key cycle resets.

what do you guys think? is this possible? or was he yanking me?

my philosophy is: i will not play if i may have to pay, but if you take the risk and get away with it, then, your cojones must be bigger, cause i aint rich!

The Bully Dog will leave foot prints on your ECU, there's been several guy's on TDR that have had their warrenty pulled because of the Bully Dog Downloader, but the SMARTY does not... I tell you what, I have the Smarty and not only does it beat the hell out of the BDDL, it won't leave any prints on the ECU. The smarty with the new updates is the way to go on the 3rd gens....

I've heard the biggest teltale sign is a peice of velcro stuck to the top of the underhood fuse box. Pull the velcro off and clean the sticky off too.

And y'all wonder why dealers cost so much and seem to *avoid* warranty work almost at all cost.

LOL, that's funny.

Just a thought, but when you put a chip in and then wreck something, then lie about it, get away with and have it repaired under warranty, will that not help to drive up the cost of the vehicle??
Not only that, but what about the next poor guy that something legitimate breaks and they void his warranty for something bogus, because the dealers and CD has to be so vigilant about people trying to rip them off??

JMO, but if you're going to mod it, and something breaks, you should be responsible for the repairs, NOT CD, and untimately, it will be the next buyer of one of their products who is payer for it, and that just might be you. Not to mention that it is fradulant, and if it's not illegal it should be. At the very least it is dishonest and unethical!

What about the Bully Dog Torque Dog, it doesn't use downloading to do it's work, just two wires.

Like I've said before... No downloader is perfect.Theres always that chance of picking your poison!

Some trucks the bully dog have screwed up... Some the Smarty has screwed up... Some the PPE have screwed up...etc.

Then there are the trucks that can run all 3 without a bit of problems... It just doesn't make sense.

From what I have read on here, the smarty is the only downloader that doesn't leave a footprint. Now modules are a different story, There have been claims by the manufactuer that modules are not detectable.

And I guess it's unethical for them to break it off in some elderly person, or someone who doesn't have a clue about cars. They do it everyday, and it's not very often that a modded truck comes in with a problem just look at this site. So the way I see it.....they more than break even.
