turbo sounds like a cop?

so after i put on the tst i kept hearing cop cars thought dang this thing already got me in trouble, but no cops. Its my turbo, its not to loud just loud enough to hear with the radio off. It has never done this before, just the normal whistle. is this an indicator the turbo is on its last leg? Or is this a power/fuel increase noise from the tst? Man i need to get rid of this stocker, Thanks guys

what is your boost pressure when you hear this? Is it whistle or knocking also? a easy way to check to see if your turbo is good is to grab the compressor blades and see if it moves. if it moved in and hout (just a tad) that is fine but if it moves up and down (closing the gab to your compressor housing) its time for a upgrade or a rebuild (i suggest upgrade)

Most likely the tst is spooling that turbo considerably quicker, so you're gonna hear a change. I hear it all the time with my truck, especially with the HTT, sounds like an ambulance everytime I go to shift it.

i hear it mostly from 0-20 psi then it goes away and just hear the whistle, no knocking though. i'll have to check the end play on it tomarrow its -4 degrees out there now, high for toaday was 1 degree, i can't do anything in that kind of weather.

I believe it is pretty common. My 05 was like that with just an Spdiesel box on a stock turbo. I got used to it (because I turned the radio up to drown it out) but other people would get in the truck and ask where the cop car was that they kept hearing.

Mine sounds way to high pitched to be mistaken for a siren. BUT my 84 t-type used to scare me. Everytime I would do a WOT run I would hear it when I would let off the throttle. Scared me for the first month I owned it.

That's because the air is more dense when it's cold out. You're getting more bang for your buck in cold weather as opposed to hot summer days. My turbo sounds amazing below 30°F.

Side to side and up and down are ok as long as it is not touching the housing. It is the in and out that indicates a worn thrust bearing. In and out play is when you are looking to rebuild it.
