Saw a diesel fuel cop today
Any of you guys ever see a diesel fuel cop?
Saw one today at a Subway in West Point Va. He was on his way to Deltaville, Va to check out several marinas. He said he was the only one in the state. Does that sound right?

Down here in Florida, they ride around in White Cars with Blue Stripes on them, with big letters on the side " D.O.T." They will
look in your fuel tank for red dye or offroad fuel. Mainly for commercial vehicles. I have seen them stop other non commercial vehicles that are diesel powered.

Dave

A diesel fuel cop?? Was he state or Federal?? I would assume from the name he is checking for dyed diesel fuel used in highway vehicles.. Not sure what they would be doing at a marina though...

The VA DMV has LEO that do the fuel tax evasion enforcement (checking for untaxed/dyed diesel fuel).. but it is certainly more than one.. I know 6 of them personally..

These guys are all over arkansas, The truck drivers call them diesel cops. They mainly harrass truck drivers but they will give a car a ticket. I think they are from the department of transportation.

Re:Saw a diesel fuel cop today
I've only seen "off-road" for sale twice.
That was years ago, out in the boonies, before I even knew what I was looking at.
Way back then I thought you were required to use the red diesel in 4x4 trucks, and the green in diesel cars, i.e. Mercedes (the only diesel car I knew of at the time). ???
I guess I was thinking, if you go offroad, you can tell you have a leak because of the dye, if it wasn't dyed, you'd be pulluting the forests and not even know it.
Haven't seen it since I got my truck, and know the difference now.
Wouldn't even think of trying it, cause with my luck, there'd be an enforcement officer using the next pump over

We have some stations that sell off road diesel in georgia...but you can't fill your truck unless you have farm plates or have a farm exemption on file with the station...they will let you fill containers or a bulk tank in your truck bed
Re:Saw a diesel fuel cop today
Here we get it delivered to the farm in bulk.
Store it in our own tanks and it comes dyed red and tax exempt.

That's how it ends up in farm trucks so often. Not only is it cheaper, but it's right there. so convenient. somebody gets in a hurry and needs fuel. pumps some in and voila. Dye stays in the system indefinitely. (for ages anyway)
