Re:Saw a diesel fuel cop today
Fishcop,

I'm curious, did you ask what the diesel fuel cop was going to do at the marinas? Was he hoping to catch them pumping red df into road vehicles; or just confirm they are selling the red stuff?

Just wondering, because I've never seen anything but red df at marinas around here on the Cheasapeake/C&D Canal/Ocean City.

They may not be tha same as their talking about but the truckers call them diesel cops and they usually pick on the 18 wheelers.

Re:Saw a diesel fuel cop today
The red dyed diesel fuel here locally is for agricultural use only, and that is why it is tax exempt. I seem to recall seeing in the owners manual for the 24v that use of it would void the warranty due to sulphur content putting excess ash in the turbo charger exhaust blades. Considering that and the state fines involved, it isn't worth trying to save a dollar or two at fill-up time.

The gentleman didn't say what he was look for specifically....just checking marina's in our area. I'm a marine police officer, I guess that's why he stopped by and chatted with me while I was eating lunch.

Re:Saw a diesel fuel cop today
?? Eats fuel pumps? I've pumped 300-400 gallons at the fuel docks more than I care to know, and the fuel pumps have never failed. We'll burn 300 gallons of the red stuff just to get to the ocean from here. Figure another couple hundred out and back fishing, then the 300 to get back home. When fishing off-shore, reliability is the key word. If fisherman were worried about the red stuff ruining the fuel pumps and possibly stranding them 100 miles out, they wouldn't burn it.

I've never seen anything but red fuel at the fuel docks; and if there was taxed fuel available, none of the big fishing boats would fuel up there. At 20-30 cents a gallon less (sometimes more), the savings can add up.

Re:Saw a diesel fuel cop today
If you really want to see a lot of Red Fuel (Off Road Diesel) got to a construction site. Every peace of diesel equipment on the site will have Red fuel in it. That is also were the Diesel Cops like to catch guys running it in thier trucks. I've personally never used it in my truck but know other who often do. It also smells a lot different than Green Fuel when you're pumping it, kinda burns the nose a little. ???

DB

Re:Saw a diesel fuel cop today
Been checked in Alabama several times. They don't look inside the tank, just place a small plastic tube in the tank, hold a finger over the end, pull the tube out, and look at the color. The DOT officer told me that he caught trucks with red fuel all the time and that every one claimed they were putting ATF in their fuel. I've seen everything from 18 wheelers to Mercedes getting tickets for it. Kenny N4YYX
