Stock turbo size?

I was talkin to Mark at tst today and he said he thought that the ps62 or htt62 wasnt much if any bigger than the stock turbo but wasnt sure about the exhaust side. But he said he has not acutally mesured and is not sure what the stock turbo size is nor has he tried a 62 yet.

So what size is the stock turbo compressor and exhaust housing on an 05 610?

If a 62/14 aint much bigger than what I got maybe I should step up to a 64/12.?

Thanks for any input.

The stock turbo has a 62mm compressor, but the exhaust side is tiny, not sure of the exact size. It's no bigger than 9cm, I wouldn't be surprised if it's smaller.

Changing to the turbos you mentioned will help alot on the exhaust side with much better flow. Running 38-40psi on the stocker will create alot of drive pressure= bad for head gasket, and poor exhaust flow= high egt. The 62 will move more air than you think, it's probably your best choice for general use under 475hp.

Stock turbo

For sure it has a 9cm exhaust side and I've been told the compressor side is 60.

Thanks guys, it is for general use/towing a little. Prolly no more than 20-25,000 lbs. But I want 550 horse. If I have to sacrifce some spool time, so be it. But I will still more than likely go for the 62... at first anyway.

Big P, I was just lookin at your sig and you have almost the exact set up I want, exept auto.

Have you dynoed the tst, smarty, sps62?

I haven't dynoed my set-up. This is just my opinion, it's nice to say you have 550hp, but I've learned the hard way, $$$$$$, that you are better off building your truck to how you use it every day. With your truck being a stick, you probably will be ok with a "66", but they are harder to keep spooled while towing. A "62" will take you farther than you think in the hp department.

Big P you said 40psi on the stocker will create alot of drive pressure= bad for head gasket, and poor exhaust flow= high egt but my stock 06 is running around 42 psi and my egt's dont go over 1250. Is this a bad thing or good?

Your truck is getting 42psi with no extra fueling or wastegate mods? When my truck was stock 32-34psi was max. which is just right for the stocker.

SO what would be a good turbo for me?

Occasional tow, fair amount of hauling, I have:

Edge J/A, Mp-8 box, 3.73s and 37" (and 35" all terrain) tires. Single Disk converter, Hawk VB, flex plate, AFE 2, no cat and dynomax bullit muffler.

I think my next 2 mods should be a secondary lift pump and a better turbo and perhaps an intercooler. I need to stay reliable and be able to tow. I feel my stock turbo runs on the edge a lot. I would like a bit more power, less EGTs and more sustainable power on the higher settings. I do not want much more turbo lag though.

Thanks guys,

Igor.

The fact that you have big tires, 3.73's and an auto, you are probably better off with a 62/12, 62/14 max if you want quick spool with better cooling than stock.

Try Industrial Injection, HTT turbo, or even BD.

Cool, thanks.

For a turbo upgrade, what all do I need? Or just a turbo?

If you get an HTT or II 62 it is pretty much a direct bolt on, I think for an auto you may need a boost fooler but I could be wrong. Go the High Tech Turbos web site and they will tell you.
