Stock Turbo & Stock Upgrades.....

Ok, first off, what turbo should I have on my 2004 (early) truck?

Secondly, what are the specs for this turbo?

Lastly, are there any performance options or upgrade kits for the stock turbo, like an internal overall kit with some hi-po upgrades?

I was thinking about trying to find a used, cheap turbo and learning to rebuild one over the coming winter, with some upgrades........if available/possible.

Or.....is this a waste of time/money/effort, and a complete new aftermarket unit would be best?

Thanks for any and all info!

You have an HE341w turbo.. (I have an early 04 as well)...

There is just not much you can do with that turbo outside of a boost elbow. Most you are ever gonna see is about 28-30 psi... and it will be a hot 30 psi too.
You really are best served getting a nice aftermarket turbo. I don't see that you have any HP mods done to your truck. Add a smarty jr and a new smaller turbo and it will really wake up that truck! A garrett stage 2 gt3782r would be just the ticket.

Ok thanks for the info and ID on my turbo.

I just thought that some company out there might possibly be making a hi-po kit for the stock turbo, like some sort of internal component upgrades.

I have a boost elbow waiting to be installed later today......

I do have an AEM Workhorse HD air intake, AFE Bladerunner intake manifold, 5MBRP 5" exhaust, and a Smarty JR.........

Sorry, I didn't see smarty jr at the bottom. Now you just need the turbo.

SO, how beneficial would it be to use a 04.5 (HE351w turbo)?

HE351 turbo= 60mm
HE341 turbo= 54mm

Other than a larger elbow, is it a bolt on mod?

Yes, simple bolt on mod. Yes it will flow more air and thus support more HP. Yes it has a full 4" elbow whereas your turbo has a 3.5" elbow.

FYI, HE351 tops out around 500 HP.
