Okay, pretend I have the TST instead of the Banks Six Gun. Would I have to disconnect the TST before downloading Smarty? There are lots of you guys stacking boxes w/Smarty. Did you disconnect them before downloading? I only ask because instructions w/Smarty say to disconnect boxes before downloading. Any feedback much appreciated.

Well, I didn't disconnect the EZ before downloading. Don't think it's a problem.

No, you dont have to, but your banks will flash a 2-1 code while it is downloading. It won't hurt anything though.

Once the download is complete, the 2-1 code will dissappear?

There is a possibility of cross programming that could happen, like my new term.

I remember reading a few years ago when guys were bringing there trucks into the dealer to have a reflash done and then the power module not working properly after wards. If Smarty marketers and producers say to remove any other power box or module then I think they know there could be problems and are trying to avoid them.

Why take a chance on damageing something when It only takes a few minutes to remove a power module.

SMARTY download

You do not have to disconnect a box,.. including the tST when downloading the SMARTY. There are differences of opinion on such things as running your windows up and down,... getting in and out of the truck with the dome light going on and off,... turning the radio on and off,... turning stuff like your radar detector off,... turning off your Torq Converter lock up controller.

I have talked at length with a number of shops and they are in concurrence with my take on this and I do none of the above when running a download.

I'm sure there are those who have done some or all the above and not had any problem. There are those who have not had that much luck and are still wondering why they locked up their ECMs. Sometimes Marco can help you unlock it and it works and sometimes not. Better safe than sorry, IMO.

There have been times when I changed a SW power level or when I removed the SMARTY and then reinstalled it and you will get a couple lights on your dash. This generally last for two or three start ups or you may drive a few miles and the lights go off,... not to worry.

This is about all you need to know to load the SMARTY other than follow the instructions on the downloader itself. Hope this answers your questions and makes your download successful. Good luck. You'll love your SMARTY.

Well, all but one of you say I don't have to remove Banks box. I have emailed Marco but haven't heard back yet. Bottom line is, if I have to unplug box every time I want to change a Smarty program, what a pain in the edited by admin that would be.

Loooook!

You ask a question and then you don't want to belive the people who have it and have used it,....??? Marco's a busy guy. Send your request to Bob Wagner. It'll be quicker.

I just got my "loaner" Smarty the other day from Bob Wagner. I was hesitant also when I read that you need to disconnect other boxes. I went ahead and tried it anyway without disconnecting my Juice and VA boxes, and downloaded the 90hp program initially and it went just fine.

Hey, OT-OF-Here, take it easy big guy, I didn't at all mean to sound unappreciative of advice given and that I didn't believe the advice. I just re-read my last post and I can see that the point I was trying too make was clearly skewed. My last statement about having to unplug box everytime I wanted to change a Smarty program was actually supporting you're argument. It would be a huge PIA to have to unplug all those sensors everytime I wanted to try a different program which makes me think you're probably right.
